In requesting advise and assistance regarding my Mozilla Firefox YouTube issues I firstly wish to thank everyone who has contributed to my previous cries for help and for all those volunteers contributing to this democratic, corner of the web. Aged 71 my Firefox and its add-ons, are extremely important to my daily life on the web. I thank you all in advance for having helped my journey in this amazing ‘place of minds’.
Using a NUC 5I7 with Windows 10 (64bit) with fully updated Firefox I have been prevented from using YouTube on that preferred default browser.
Disabling all of my installed add-ons, the YouTube service resumed. It was obvious the absolutely marvelous ‘YouTube enhancement’ add-on and the two ad-blockers were an issue, which up until I’d done a better than average, routine malware virus and junk file clean out (revo uninstaller pro), had not been an issue. Earlier, what I believed was unrelated at the time, I had been prompted to download and install a new version of VLC which I dutifully performed. Unfortunately the new version of VLC did not appear to work on any of my AV files so I used the revo uninstaller to remove all traces of that update before reinstalling my original version of the program. Having reestablished my VLC was back to 100% I decided to do a routine check, cleaning out any other junk that may have cluttered my system. It was then that a popup window advised I download and install a newer version of Mozilla Firefox, just before clicking on the install, I remembered this was a repeat of a previous ‘download and install’ I’d done, days before and a quick search found that version of Firefox in my download folder. Unsure of what might happen I did a backup of the currently installed Firefox settings before clicking install. I now believe these events regarding the VLC and Firefox installations may well have been linked, however I am not sure how and what to do now. I want to enjoy my advert free browsing and the excellent YouTube enhancements with my dark screen Firefox but somewhere along the line my defenses have been breached likely by my own brash stupidity. Has anyone encountered such an intrusion and how do I get back to my original, ‘personally customized Firefox browser’? PS: I note a growing number of others with similar problem.
