Since two weeks or so, whenever I'm (also) running Firefox 53, all over sudden my whole pc freezes: nothing works anymore, no mouse, no task manager, nothing. FF does not create a crash report (doesn't get a chance to do so) All I can do is a hard reset. This does NOT happen when I'm not using FF. (Sometimes I get a warning that Firefox has stopped, but then it keeps running, so probably one of extensions or add-ons has failed.) I have a stand alone, always fully updates Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 pc. SFC /scannow was ok, CHKDSK had to repair errors in the volume bitmap, and memtest86+/8 passes came clean. I cleaned up FF and am now only running one extension.

There can be three causes: 1. Firefox 53 2. Extension(s) 3. Windows (latest updates) 4. Other/unknown

I generated a memory report, which is abracadabra to me, but I it points out what's wrong and someone can explain what to do. But how can I post the memory-report.json.txt?

I frequently watch Fox News Channel live on Firefox in Windows 10. The FNC player no longer works on Firefox 52 and 53, so I have been using MS Edge to watch FNC. I think the problem may have started with Firefox 52. I would prefer to use Firefox for all my browsing.

Hi,

since the update to FF 53.0 (and now also with 53.0.2) I've had it freeze on me 5 times and every time it also completely locked up my PC - mouse was frozen, Ctrl+Alt+Del didn't work, gave it 10 minutes but was still frozen afterwards - and I had to shut my PC down forcefully.

My system: FF 53.0.2 (32 bit) Win 7 (64 bit) 16gb RAM FF Addons: NoScript & AdBlock Plus

No changes in terms of add ons, no Windows updates or new programs that could have caused this. The only programs running in the background are/were my anti-virus/anti-malware programs, Skype, Outlook, Rainmeter and my mouse driver (all of which I've used for at least the last 6 months). The first two times it happened when I tried to restore tabs from the "oops, that shouldn't have happened" page and the last 3 times when I opened a new tab (with 1-2 other tabs open at max, usually only an empty one!). The 3rd time was 2 weeks ago, the 4th time on May 9th when I opened a new tab after clicking on one of my tiles on the "new tab" page (no other tabs were open at the same time!). Today it happened again! I installed a bunch of Windows updates a couple of days ago and this time I had Minecraft loading up and was watching a movie (DVD) in VLC (no Outlook running this time) but when I opened a second tab in FF, the picture froze again. The weird part is that the sound of the movie kept playing but it didn't let me move the mouse or open the Task Manager. I've never had a video run at the time of the freeze, so I don't know if Windows would have still kept playing the sound the other times.

I can play really hardware-intensive games that use 50+% of my cpu (not that there are a lot that do) and a lot of my gpu's power/VRAM and/or RAM (sometimes goes as high as overall 13gb/16gb) but I've never had any freezes just with games + watching a video at the same time, it always happens while opening a website through one of the tiles or a new tab directly in FF 53.x!

I have read the suggestions for stopping the phishing messages about bogus updates to Firefox, installed the suggested fixes, and still they come almost every five minutes. Is there anything else that can be done? It is almost impossible to use Firefox because of this. I have not used any other browser for years, and do not like the alternatives. But I am at my tolerance limit. Is there any other fix?

Recent update of Firefox to 53 has stopped Trusteer Rapport from working in browser. Uninstalled and reinstalled program for Firefox from Trusteer web site. Didn't fix issue. Still not working. Perhaps Trusteer needs to update program on their end. They just did this for Firefox 52. Better yet, Firefox should inform outside software add-ons that they are coming out with a new version so adjustments can be made.

Well, my previous thread on this issue appears to have been deleted, and my ability to log in also until I reset my password - any explanation for this would be greatly appreciated.

However the basic problem remains as per the subject line.

The fundamental problem of responsiveness remains but the timeout crash has reduced in frequency since the last couple of upgrades.

Since the last crash I have been distracted by yet another firefox problem related to live bookmarks whereas Firefox, in it's wisdom, now seems to be changing the ID of the bookmarks thus breaking add-ins like brief that rely on the ID number being constant... sigh...

I just wonder if Mozilla is serious about Firefox anymore, for me they have made it almost a nightmare to use, every update seems to break something.

Where to go?

Today we have started getting the following error when trying to access bing.com

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.bing.com. Invalid OCSP signing certificate in OCSP response. Error code: SEC_ERROR_OCSP_INVALID_SIGNING_CERT

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

What is strange is that this is happening (1) only in Firefox, and (2) only on some of our computers. We have a mixture of wired and wireless computers on our home network. I have checked computer times. Firefoxes are all running 53.0.3 on Windows 7. Setting security.ssl.enable_ocsp_stapling to false resolves the issue, but only while the setting is false.

Thanks for your help!

First, I am a developer myself, so please provide cogent answers.

Since the last few updates (maybe starting with 51) Firefox is presenting with a terrible issue.

When FF has been running for a while (a day or more) with multiple tabs (<20) and I open a new tab using (+) the tab opens (at the 0,0 position, before the silly animation squeezing the other tabs can play) then the parent window shows NOT RESPONDING FF becomes completely non-responsive After several seconds, Win7 windows explorer crashes (as soon as any other windows event is processed, e.g. when trying to start TaskManager, kill the process, switch to another window...etc). At this point, the PC becomes completely unresponsive, mouse freezes, and requires a reboot

Now, a reboot is a major hassle due to sometimes unsaved data loss and mandatory RAID verification.

FF was my favorite browser, with no corporate bloatware. No add-ons except AdBlocker so that I can listen to uTube without the Geico lizard talking in the middle of my fav song. This being a dev machine, there is zero bloatware or crapware, no pron, not even Flash. Just VisualStudio, antivirus, and FF with uTube+AdBlocker for the music.

FF does not even have the time to generate a dump. Not that I let any app send outbound data from this machine. All the "diagnostic instrumentation" from third parties is disabled.

Come on FF devs, you should know what's going on and fix it. Please give me a browser that's simple and does a few things well. Remember KISS from engineering school? Don't force me to switch to Google/Apple/Muscrosoft spyware....

Thank you

cut the nonsense with the *media.autoplay.enabled* switch. it doesnt work and it never will. as soon as the website uses any kind of scripting, this switch is ineffective.

which extension do i need to install to stop this autoplay nightmare forever?

None of the Mozilla products are working properly anymore in my laptop (Windows 7):

Firefox Thunderbird Mozbackup

they can start but fail on opeations like restoring bookmarks or reading emails or backing up

WHY? Or they sa so incredibly slow, maybe if I leave the PC working overnight, they will respond but I cannot work like that

I have updated, reinstalled, diagnosed

The worst thing is when they crash and freeze my pc, then when I restart it it makes the loud intermittent bleep or goes to blue screen and tells me that maybe software installation made it fail.

Other programmes like google chrome work just fine.

Is there a common bug to all the Mozilla products, what is wrong?

thanks

I installed the latest version of Firefox on my new Windows 10 laptop. Some sites including google.com and some Mozilla pages are giving me "your connection is not secure" errors. I do not get those errors on the laptop with IE or Edge, and I do not get the errors on my Windows 7 desktop PC running an earlier version of Firefox. I had FF set to be the default browser on the new laptop so out of frustration I uninstalled FF. What could be causing these messages on reputable websites?

Prior to the v53 update, I could display my local HTML pages without any problems. (I have NoScript set to allow local files.)

After 53, I get a blank white display for all local pages, images, etc.

I tried changing the browser.tabs.remote.separateFileUriProcess setting to "true" from the default "false," and restarted the browser. No display of HTML files.

I must say that the change noted in the "Add-on Compatibility for Firefox 53 | Mozilla Add-ons Blog" post regarding "Use a separate content process for file:// URLs. This slightly changes the behavior of _openURIInNewTab." isn't the slightest bit helpful.

I am using the latest version 53.0 of Firefox. I even UNINSTALLED FIREFOX and Re-Installed a brand new Firefox 53.0 , and have the same page freeze / hangup problem !!!

Never had a problem with Firefox for years now -- but as of the last 3 weeks, it keeps hanging up on random occasions , freezes a web page or site. I have to use Task manager (and there I see listed "FIREFOX NOT RESPONDING" ) to click on "END TASK" so as to be able to get out of the frozen page. I thus will loose certain things when Firefox returns. ie; usually the texts in composing a message board message, or composing an email

I have used FIREFOX SAFE MODE and it still freezes up.

When I run a Firefox TEST Mode thruout, I comes up with "Incompatibility Issue" but shows at right side of page a green check mark with word '"FIXED" - But it is NEVER fixed !!!

ALSO, I keep checking in SECURITY SECTION the box for REMEMBER LOGINS FOR SITES -- but every time I leave Firefox, or it closes, or it freezes up --- I have to go back and check that box or my logins do not shop up !

I have almost no extensions (other than Trend Mirco Anti Virus which never gave me problems with Firefox) and no plugins.

So I have tried many things that the support " stock" Q&A material suggests --- but still no fix.

I have seen on line that many people are having this problem. And can't seem to fix it either !

Here BELOW is a copy-paste of the "see the data" tech information for my system - if it may be of use;
