Thunderbird deletes mail in folders permanently
I'm using 24.3.0, but this has been going on for a while -- I just never bothered to pin it down. If I have opened an old message that is stored in a folder under one of my accounts and happen to delete it (usually accidentally!), for some reason the message is apparently permanently deleted because it never ends up in the Trash folder as would a message out of the Inbox.
Is there a reason for this, or a setting I might have missed? I accidentally deleted a rather important message today and only got it back by exiting Tbird and restoring the folder files from a Crashplan backup!

Hi rochrunner,
Thank you for your question, I understand that you would like to stop permanent deletion. I do know you can archive all of your messages with these instructions: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
Also you can change this in account settings under Synchronization and Storage. Select "Do not delete messages" and the do a test with a message that you send to yourself. Or in Server settings, set the "When I delete a message" to the preference of choice.
The later preference is more likely the one you want :-)
