Firefox 27 keeps crashing / freezing
I did not have this problem before 27 was installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and disabled extensions, no difference. I regularly clear history / cookies. I can't use it, have to keep shutting it down with Task Manager. Is it not compatible with XP?

Downgrade it to Firefox 26
Dyvik Chenna: We do not advise users to downgrade Firefox for any reason unless it is a problem we cannot fix. We usually try to keep them on the current version because of the vulnerabilities that have been fixed.
Janice: In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.

Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Sorry think I should have said freezing, does crashing mean Firefox closes itself down? I have NOT received a 'Firefox has crashed notification'.
It just freezes, can't click on anything, nothing happens, memory usage (viewed in Processes) decreases rapidly. Only way I can use it again is by shutting it down myself.
When Firefox crashes it should look like this, http://www.securasecurity.org/services/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mozilla-firefox-crash-reporter.png
Have you received that?
Can you try disabling McAfee Site Advisor (Firefox > Add-ons > Extensions) and also Updated Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+?
No I don't recall receiving that.
I have already tried disabling Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+
I do have McAfee Site Advisor - hate to be without it!
But I will try disabling that too.
Thank you very much for helping me.
I will come back to you on this.
Just disabled both of those (McAfee Site Advisor and Updated Ad Blocker for Firefox 11+?) and restarted Firefox.
Exactly the same - sticking, locking, freezing......rapid slump in Firefox memory usage.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
There might be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
I created a new profile....some improvement thank you, although I still have to close Firefox down with Task Manager at times, but not as much as before. Firefox 27 is running so slow in comparison to how it was before this update, it's sticking and locking. Also I am getting this error (which I have seen quite a number of other people are too) - type error:oE is null?

The "type error:oE is null" error can be caused by the McAfee SiteAdvisor extension.
Thank you for that useful link cor-el. I have had the McAfee Site Advisor extension for some time; I have never received the type error:oE is null alert before Firefox 27?
See this thread about this issue: /questions/986373
Thank you for that cor-el. I don't want to put my computer at risk by disabling McAfee Site Advisor. I hope the issue gets fixed with the next Firefox upgrade. My main concern is the freezing, locking and slowness I have with Firefox 27.
Just a thought
What advantages if any does McAfee site advisor provide ?
The McAfee AV facilities can still be used but the troublesome site advisor disabled.
Firefox already has rudimentary phishing protection built in, and turned on by default. I believe the same site advisor type information may also be obtained online for any questionable individual site.
- see How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?
- Online site check with McAfee http://www.siteadvisor.com/

and the attack test page
N.B. as explainedin the article they are demonstration pages not just screenshots
With Phishing and Malware Protection turned on, both sites should be blocked from loading.
