I use Trend Micro Playinum as my anti-virus software and this morning (presumably following an automatic update of either Firefox or Trend Micro Platinum) I received the above error message when opening Firefox. Presumably this means that if I now use Firefox as my browser, I will be vulnerable to malicious websites, viruses etc) - and, of course, if this is so I won't be using Firfox as my browser any longer and will switch to an alternative browser that is compatible with my anti-virus software.

Is there a patch or a fix for this to allow Firefox to continue working my anti-virus software?

See Trend Micro for an updated version of that Firefox extension.

Thank you; I have contacted Trend Micro via their support forums and will let you know what they say regarding an update to the Firefox extension.

Well, the recommendation from Trend Micro is that I revert to an earlier version of Firefox until Trend fully supports the latest version ...

"As of now, the version of Firefox supported by the latest version of Titanium (2014) is only Firefox 22.0 or earlier version. Right now, you may want to downgrade your Firefox first until 26.0 version is fully supported by the Titanium program."

So it seems that this is what I'll have to do - hopefully for the short term only.

I know that using earlier versions of any browser can open further security vulnerabilities (that the later versions fixed) but do you know of any significant vulnerabilities betwen Firefox version 22 and 26 that might lead to a significant risk, even if only using version 22 in the short term?

Or would this just be an 'at my own risk' solution to the problem with trend micro not supporting the latest Firfox?

Best wishes.

IMHO, it is asinine for a security vendor to recommend that a user go back 4 versions of Firefox to make their crap work! My suggestion to Trend Micro is to not provide Firefox add-ons if they aren't capable of keeping those add-ons up to date with Firefox, as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox. Norton/Symantec, AVG, Avira, and other security vendors may not always have their "stuff" updated on the exact day that a new version of Firefox is released, but they sure as hell don't neglect their "stuff" for months.

What is the Trend Micro NSC Firefox Extension?
The Trend Micro NSC Firefox Extension is the Network Security Component that is responsible for the Web Threat Protection of your Titanium program in the Mozilla browser.

Quite honestly that sounds like the Safe Browsing feature that is built-into Firefox. IOW, something that duplicates a function that is already in Firefox.

Sorry, butting in here, but I'm having this same problem. I'm an illiterate computer user so you really have to dumb things down for me.

I have not yet upgraded to Firefox 26 and it sounds like I shouldn't. It sounds like I would be safer leaving my TrendMicro intact and take the risk of using an earlier version of Firefox, rather than the other way around.

Trend Micro shouldn't be putting their users in a position to have to decide which is more important, an up-to-date browser or their out-dated add-ons. And for their "official" recommendation to be installing a 4 version old version of Firefox to be able to use their crappy extension, that IMHO is just plain inexcusable!

As I told the Owner of this thread, it sounds like that Trend Micro NSC extension for Firefox is something that duplicates a feature that is already built into Firefox. Then the question becomes, it that extension that much better than the Safe Browsing feature that has been a part of Firefox for over 4 years now?

The "safest" thing is to get a security program that takes their obligation to their users seriously, and use the latest version of Firefox! Or don't offer features that "you" aren't capable of keeping up to date with the second (or third) most popular browser in use today.

IMO, the first "line of defense" is the web browser, the second is the security application.

I posted this on the thread: Firefox 26 is crashing at random

" XP SP3

Firefox 26

Trend Micro Internet Security 2014

Trend Micro BEP Firefox Extension 8.0.0.1135

Been using FF as default browser since 2011.

I also have random crashes on various sites. Especially on TestMy.net a comprehensive speed test site. It will always crashes on TestMy.net. I never experienced a FF crash until FF 26.

IE8 does not crash on Test My.net or any other site.

Note:

Only work around I've found to work is to disable the BEP extension.

The Trend Micro NSC extension is not disabled and does not cause problems.

Trend Micro Toolbar is not installed. I never use it.

Thank you,

Rob "

Maybe this can help in our quest for a valid, safe solution.

I am totally perplexed as to the exact nature of the BEP extension and why the NSC extension is there without the Trend Micro Toolbar added.

Any thoughts would be appreciated very much.

Best Regards,

Rob
