Why won't Firefox let me access Google when it is in the tool bar anyway?

I set the browser to open at Google and at first, I had no problem, but now Firefox is blocking me accessing the site, saying it is unsafe and will cause harm to my computer. I have used this site for years and had no problem, so why is this happening, please. Chris Keys

Hi jscher and cor-el - the problem with Firefox has now been solved. My son who looks after the schools computers visited yesterday and said that BrowserSafe was something that had probably attached itself to something I had downloaded. He has uninstalled it and now everything works perfectly.

I checked again with the shop this morning and they said I had been misinformed last time I rang them and that they don't install BrowserSafe, only Bullguard, so if I had been told that in the first place, we might have got there sooner. Nevertheless, all is well now and thank you very much for your assistance. It was very comprehensive and you were both very patient. Kind regards Chris

Is it a safe program to download?? Chris

Hi Chris, thanks for the Task Manager screen shots. If you use the button at the bottom of the Processes tab to view processes started by all users, does Fiddler show up in the longer list?

If Fiddler is not running, some other software may be using its certificate as part of its content filtering process. But I don't know which software that would be.

The software from Microsoft SysInternals is safe to run if you download from Microsoft's Technet site.

Could you turn off "BrowserSafeguard" to see whether that makes any difference? Unchecking it in Autoruns should prevent it from running at startup, but there may be a way to turn it off immediately using its tray icon (or if necessary using the Task Manager to kill it).

Guess what?? That worked. Is it unsafe for me to not have BullGuard run on startup, though? Will it still work for other things, such as checking email and visiting websites?

No rush to reply, as I am off to bed now - early start in the morning.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris, I'm not clear on the relationship between BullGuard and BrowserSafeguard. When I search them together, it just isn't clear that they are from the same company. ??

Perhaps there is a setting you can change. Maybe "cdn" (content distribution network) is getting blocked by an ad filter or some other filter that is casting too wide a net.

Okay jscher - I will check with the place I bought the pc from, as Bullguard was already installed when I bought it. BrowserSafeguard wasn't mentioned, but I assumed that was maybe a Windows addition. Will come back to you later today, as going out shortly. Thanks - Chris

Hi again jscher - I spoke to the shop and they said that the BullGuard and BrowserSafeguard do different jobs but both were installed by them before I bought the pc. I thought I had cracked it last night, when I turned off BullGuard and Firefox let me search for something, but this morning when I turned on the pc, it was back to normal again, despite BullGuard still being off. I tried the same with BrowserSafeguard and the same thing happened - I was able to search until I restarted the pc, then it was back to square one.

The shop said again to drop the pc in to them next time I am passing so they can see why this is happening. This will probably be in a couple of weeks or and, at least I can use IE in the meantime, so no worries.

Thank you again for your suggestions and help. At least I have learned a few things, not least how to do a screen print!!!

Kind regards Chris
