I have Firefox 16.0.2 because it's the latest version compatible with with Mac OS 10.5. I'm not willing to upgrade my Mac right now because it works perfectly fine (aside from not being compatible with stuff), and I don't feel like paying or going through the hassle. I'm so far behind right now that I would have to update my operating system at least three times to get up to date. I used to have some sort of plug-in or extension that allowed me to view PDFs in my browser. It was buggy, but it was working up through yesterday. Then I was having some issues, no idea what they were, and ended up having to reset Firefox. I lost all my add-ons. I have been unsuccessful in finding whatever it was I had before. Is there ANY possible way I can view PDFs in my browser? This is driving me absolutely nuts.

I dont see a PDF Plugin under your plugin list.

Make sure Acrobat (one that works with 10.5) is installed.

Also see: PDF files are blank or cause an error message on Mac

Instead of sticking with 10.5, I would install Linux and use that until you can upgrade.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

I'm not sure you guys understand my question? I don't have a PDF viewer plug-in. I'm asking where I can find one. This https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/pdfjs/ isn't compatible with my version of Firefox.

I have Adobe Reader, I can view PDFs. But it downloads them first and then opens them in Adobe. I want them to open in a Firefox window.

Not really interested in switching my operating system at the moment. The only real problem with it is back compatibility of certain things (like updated versions of Firefox, for example), but for my everyday use it doesn't cause a problem. The only real thing that's annoying me at the moment is the fact that the PDFs open in Adobe instead of in Firefox, but that's not really worth the hassle of installing a new operating system for.

Hello,

In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:

  1. Go to Tools > Options (or Firefox > Options).
  2. In the Options window, select the Applications tab.
  3. In the Search field, type PDF. You should find Portable Document Format (PDF).
  4. On the right handside you should find an Action column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose Preview in Firefox.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Meghraj, I went to Firefox>Preferences>Applications, but when I search PDF nothing shows up.

ideato, I I found my version (2.3.2) and downloaded, so that's a start! Unfortunately, it's not working. For some PDFs, it's still prompting me to download. For others, a page opens in Firefox for the PDF, but it just starts loading and never stops.

Hmm. Again, I've gotten to that screen, but there is nothing about PDFs there. Which type of document should I choose? It's mainly audio and video options, pictures, etc.

Okay. So I was able to get PDFs to show up on that list by selecting to use Firefox to open PDFs when I got the download prompt.

So now it is on the application list - but what do I choose as the program to open them with? I was able to get to the PDF plug-in, but it's not "selectable."

Success!!! I found a folder on my computer called "Old Firefox Data" and it had an extensions folder in it. I copied over all the extensions into my profile folder (Name>Library>Application Support>Firefox>Profiles>...>Extensions), and the working PDF viewer was there! So when I restarted Firefox, all is well.

Not sure why, but that other PDF viewer plug-in you guys linked to doesn't work.

OH suddenly had a burst of memory. The plug-in that I have is "Firefox PDF Plug-in for Mac 1.2." Which is the same thing as this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/pdf-plugin-for-firefox-on-mac-/ even though that says it's not compatible with my OS. I remember doing something really strange, with the help of some googling, where I had to go into some files and change some code to get it to allow me to use an old version that was compatible with old Firefox. I did this maybe a year or so ago and it was really complicated. Wish I could remember that website that had the instructions!

Do you mean running Firefox in 32 bit mode?
