Hello Philipp. Thank you for responding to my question. Because I am constantly redireted to other site while using firefox I followed the directions to "RESET"firefox to its default state. Here are the steps that I took: Click help select troubleshooting click reset firefox firefox then closes and then resets the defaults click finish when done This did not help at all and I am searching out other means of troubleshooting to help solve my problems. Hi acito777, regarding the display of Firefox, could you be in full screen view? You usually can switch to normal view using one of these methods:

  • The F11 key
  • Slide the mouse pointer all the way to the top of the screen and right-click (or Ctrl+click); if the tab bar slides down, right-click a blank area

Is the redirect problem limited to Firefox or does it affect your other browsers?

Some redirects are caused by changes to your DNS servers. These may be set in your cable/DSL modem, or in a wired/wireless router, or at your operating system level, or in Firefox. To check your Firefox connection setting:

Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default setting is "Use system proxy settings" but you also can try "No proxy" to see whether that makes any difference.

Thank you very much jscher2000 for your help! Actually, the next time that I turned my laptop on the Firefox screen was perfect, like before. As you suggested, I checked Firefox connection setting, it was on "Use system proxy settings".

And yes, I have been redirected to other sites on Google Chrome as well. I am currently using a wireless service that my landlord provides for me and my neighbor, by putting an access point in my place and the router is in my neighbor’s house. If redirects are caused by changes to my DNS servers, how can I be sure of it and what can I do about it in order to protect myself?

Hmm, I think the question of how to investigate your current DNS servers probably is best directed to a networking-oriented or security forum. Perhaps: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/

If it happens again then make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

You can also do a check for malware.
