will using the installer "manually" clobber old preferences from the firefox I'm replacing?
I just upgraded an old MacBook from 10.4 to 10.6 + updates. I can finally upgrade my Firefox from version 3. But from within Firefox 3 itself I don't seem to have the usual options to check for updates and install them (maybe they weren't invented yet in 2004). So, I downloaded the installer for Firefox 20 "manually" and was about to drag Firefox.app into /Applications, when I had a moment of doubt about simply overwriting the old Firefox.app. I know updates applied from within the program don't clobber preferences and bookmarks, but when that's not possible, is the installer from scratch just as kind? If not, how do I save them to be reimported once I've upgraded Firefox?

hello, your personal data (bookmarks, passwords, preferences...) is stored separately from your applications folder & will still be available in the new version when you upgrade as you have described.
