In the last day or two I have noticed a pop up saying " Firefox Plug-in HD Video Player is missing: " with an icon to install the plugin.

I searched around the net and found only one sight saying, " this is malware or a phishing program so do not download and just ignore. I am still able to watch movies and what not online but the message is just so damn annoying.

I am using adblock but it is not blocking that message. I am not really sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :-)

If this happens on one or a few sites, the site(s) could be infected with malware. If this happens on all sites, your system could be infected with malware.

Check your system for malware.

Please Update to the latest Firefox 19.0.x version.

The Firefox Firefox 12.0 version that you currently run is no longer supported with security updates

You can find the latest Firefox 19.0.x release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Thank you, I updated to the newest version of Firefox but still having the same problem. I guess it is malware.

I will try some diagnosing programs to flush them out.

Old Fox-

I downloaded 2 different malware busters but they did not find anything. I am still getting the same message.

I searched add-ons in Firefox but there is no such program such as HD video player. Not sure what to do but I appreciate your help.

hanshinboy:

  1. If the problem only occurs on one or a few sites, the site(s) may be infected with malware.
  2. Only 2 of the suggested malware applications may not be enough to scan your system thoroughly.
    • Each detects different malware.
    • Be sure to update each one for the most current definitions after installing and before running the malware applications.

You can also go to one of the sites specializing in malware removal listed at the bottom of the article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware . We are not malware experts here, but the contributors on those sites are.

  • Read their rules before you post (follow their instructions) and post a new thread/question (do not add to an already existing thread/question)
  • Do not be impatient
  • Do exactly as they instruct you (no more and no less)
  • Keep in close contact with them to avoid having your thread closed.

it is defiantly a scam that will get you a malware load or worse ..

if you are running AdBlock Plus .. and have the Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus installed .. you will have an option to hide elements on a page .. just click on the Adblock Plus status bar icon and chose Select an element to hide .. a keyboard navigation list will pop up .. but all you have to do in this case is move your cursor over the dropdown bar .. click on an open area of the dropdown and a dialog window will open .. select chose add element hiding rule ..

you will not see the offer to install a plugin on that site again ..

What I have is this: Install HD player please, I have installed some free software like open file, and others, I m running my antivirus program, usually when I have malware the program tell me and removes it, that is why i prefer to buy software than use freeware, when i install them i remove like use big, or other browsers, but anyway they keep the malware.
