Why not keep 3.6 version maintained (it works!) forever?

Given the nightmare encountered with the update recently, I took my laptop into to be "serviced" & was told there were so many with the same issues that the techs there were reverting to the 3.6 version that I'd already had & gave me back my peace of mind & a usable, efficient product with enough bells & whistles for my purposes. Immediately, your "update" again appeared with the message that the 3.6 version would only be maintained for a limited time. Why? When does it end? Then what?

No, it wouldn't be safe to continue using a web browser which has hit EOL (end of life).

IMO, don't even think about using AVG. Their anti-virus software is very good, but the AVG program installs multiple Firefox add-ons that are pure garbage (IMO). AVG Safe Search is notorious for high CPU usage, crashes, and general slowing down of Firefox for many years now - problematic extensions. Their fairly new Link Scanner add-on is causing similar problems, and AVG has a new CPU usage monitor which is way too sensitive. And the resulting joke is that the first 2 add-ons are what cause the 3rd to go off repeatedly during an internet session, and advise the user to restart Firefox. Without Safe Search and Link Scanner the CPU usage warning wouldn't be triggered; and of course, if the Firefox user doesn't have AVG installed to begin with they don't have any of those problems.

My advice is to use Avira AntiVir Free - http://www.free-av.com/
Or, the free version of Avast -http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Sounds like incompetent techs to me. April 24th is the day Firefox 3.6.x support ends, which is like 9 months later than was planned when Firefox 4.0 was released. When that date comes about, you have two choices as I see it, continue using the last 3.6.28 version and live with the lack of security updates in the future (which isn't advised), or use a different browser that might be more suited to your needs and desires. It would be too costly time wise with the limited resources Mozilla has to support three different browser version for any period of time; the ESR version will be released on 4-24, as support for 3.6.x ends, along with the current release version, which will be Firefox 12.

What if I continued with Firefox 3.6 28 version beyond April along with an AVG or like security system installed? Would like end? Sorry, I'm just frustrated. Would it be safe?

Your help is so much appreciated, edmeister, thank you.
