When Firefox warns me to update (for my MacOs X 10.4) and I download the newer version, I get the message "..that this version of Firefox does not work on my version of MAC" So I seem not te be able to update anymore!
My MacOs notebook Pro is 10.4; my version of Firefox is 3.6.19, when I click 'updates' there is version 5.0, but when I download this version, and - try - to install it on my Mac I get the message : "...this version does not work on your version of the Mac..."
By the way, I also had this problem with newer versions of OPERA, en now I cannot use any version of OPERA anylonger on my notebook.
Who is worse: Apple or Microsoft?! I guess I have to buy (spend money to a newer MacOs X version?!) to continue safety in browsers, and I do not want to use SAFARI, neither Internet Explorer of Microsoft!

For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:
If you have an Intel processor then you are out of luck with OS X 10.4
Firefox 3.6.x (Mac OS X 10.4 and later) can be found here:

Hello, thanks for y'r answer; I went to the Mac store and could make an update with CD for € 29,90 to OS-X Snow Leopard; unfortunately I could not directly install the latest MAC-OS X! (Policy of MAC....had to do with $'s....) But the problem is solved now, regards, Masja
