How can I get an address toolbar with Mozilla Firefox

@ammarkarian:

Do you mean the list that opens if you click the arrow at the far right side of the location bar?
That list shows websites that you have typed in the location bar in a most visited order.

How many entries do you see?

@hotshot100:

Do you have the Navigation Toolbar visible?

If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear

  • Make sure that the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
  • If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

12 entries is the maximum for that drop down list. Both the most visited drop down list (click arrow) and the autocomplete drop down (typing) list from the location bar are generated via a query of the places.sqlite database that you can see in the Library (History > Show All History). If you want to see other entries in that list then you need to remove entries that you do not want to see from the history and also type entries that you want to appear often enough to make them appear.

what do you mean often enough. there is an address in my drop down that i literally have only visited twice in the past 6 months. and yet other sites that i visit often can not get included in my drop down. how did that one site happen to get a spot there i wonder?? i have been very disappointed with the level of customer service here. i wish you had a phone number.

I have always been able to find my most used urls by dropping down from the address bar, but suddenly this option seemed to be gone and there were now none of the former urls shown there. I thought someone using the computer had cleared history or something but that was not the situation. I do not turn off the computer much and so we slowly accumulated some of the urls back into the drop down menu. Then suddenly a couple of days ago, they were also gone! This is quite annoying. How do I keep them there and not have them eliminated? I would not mind seeing a long list of the sites I have been on so I could go directly to them without doing a lot of typing. It would be nice to be able to type in an address without having to change https to http each time when the only way seems to be to go to a site by typing in the address and I had been on a secure site before hand. I do not consider eliminating the drop down list an "improvement". I wish you would allow that to continue and be edited by the user if he needs to do so. Most of the time issues are caused by making "upgrades" which change the way things are done with no valid reason to do so. It there is a need for a different way to make firefox run on a netbook or phone then make it special for that and keep the old system going for us users on laptops and desktops. I can understand making some changes due to security or virus sort of issues, but I am almost certain that those changes can be make underneath what the normal user will see and use to navigate the program. Allowing those who have the time and energy to make some personal changes to the way it looks and operates is fine with me, but don't force all your users to make those changes too. I am sure the interface for firefox could be changed in the way things are accessed but not force us all to use that way...........call it a custom version or something like that. For instance, I know there are hot keys for a lot of things but I have better uses for my limited memory than to memorize them. The problem is that they are all different for each program you use and if they all did the same thing in every program I might be inclined to do so. But that is not the case. So have some compassion for the casual user who is not a complete computer geek who lives and breathes computers night and day.
