Certain https sites e.g. banking and online retailing, I get "the connection was winterrupted" webpage. I tried eveything in the online suggestions before writing this. It works on my Windows 7 and Vista machine but not my XP machine. The XP and vista machine go through my place of work which has a bunch of firewalls, security, etc. as any corporate place. They are configured the same and get updates automatically. IE8 gets to the websites just fine.
