firefox 4 crashes constantly, on opening, different pages, etc. Old firefox worked fine
I updated to Firefox 4 on my vista laptop. I am running no redirect and a script blocker, both compatable with firefox 4. Firefox 4 keeps crashing, will keep loading the "well this is embarrassing" page, even when it starts normally, I will load a page, and within a few minutes, firefox will redirect to that page, then crash

I don`t know if this may have anything to do with your problem. Have a look at this on Mozilla add-on`s web page, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/microsoft-net-framework-assist/
1/3 of the time a page wont load up after Googling something in the toolbar. Always takes 5 secs for the "Cant load" page to pop up, and then just refresh and its ok.
This has been going on for about 3 months now. When are they gonna fix this???
firefox is getting worse and worse...I have the latest version..keeps freezing up, crashing, and when it does stay up its so slow....my solution..I just installted google chrome..works just fine. I guess goodbye firefox..they have really blown it this time..and I need to use my computer....
Off to google land.....
I have this problem and not only did it not go away when I reinstalled 4.0, it stays even when I reverted to the earlier 3.whatever version.Still the crashing and not being able to see pull down items. I'm writing this in Chrome because FF has again hung.
And oh, guess what, I can't look at my profile because, besides crashing constantly, I can't see pull down menus. If I go to top bar to pull down something, I see the pull down items for less than a second. If it's the top item I might be able to click on it and have it come up but if it's not the top, it doesn't work. (sorry if this doesn't make any sense.)
This has been going on for over a month. I'm using IE, Chrome and Safari more and more because they all work great compared to FF at this point.
The problem occurs on my Vista desktop, the PC I use all day. FF 4.0 works fine on my Windows 7 laptop, the device I don't use that much.
Former FF User.
Maybe I'm missing something. How is that supposed to help? I don't see the point of adding an add-on I don't understand if Add-ons may be at least part of the problem.
I have the same problem on win7 and ubuntu it's not os problem. I hope it's fixed; because is user firefox for my job.
I upgraded about a week ago from 3.6 to 4.0.1 on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and had regular lock-ups and crashes. After sending at least 20 crash reports, and getting no responses at all from Mozilla (hint guys, need a better way to collate crashes and get at least some response out), and after digging through these forums, I could not find a solution. I took a better approach. I looked at the signature of my crashes; use the web page "http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox crashes" to get a list of the crashes you have reported. Open the crashes and look at the signature at the top.
Here is my signature.
jvm.dll@0xc7ed2
This is the Java virtual machine. I disabled javascript. I ran for a day without either a lockup or a crash. This was far longer than any previous period of time (1-20 minutes since upgrading). However, with javascript disabled, a lot of web pages I visit were not available or not rendered correctly.
I then opened Windows Control Panel and "Add or Remove Programs" to check my Java versions. I had Java 6 version 19; the latest is 25. See "http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp". I upgraded Java and re-enabled javascript on Firefox. So far, no problems. It appears my older Java version worked with the earlier releases of FF but not the later ones.
I did some brief searches for any FF forum comments or support items about the jvm version and 4.0.1 crashes or lock-ups, but couldn't find any. I hope this helps someone out there.
I was wrong. Upgrading Java to version 25 did not resolve the lock-ups and crashes. I have had to disable javascript again. I now get a different signature: jvm.dll@0x5e6b2. This may be that the offending routine in the jvm is at a new address now with the newer version. Looking into this further.
i have not installed the flash player. the windows was freshly installed yesterday and the firefox is stillcrashing
same problem here, FF4 on MAC OS 10.6.6. loading of page stops, no other pages can be loaded. when closing FF, i have to quit twice before the application effectively ends. this does solve the problem of not loading pages for an uncertain time, and gives me the restore session dialogue, loading the tabs from before stalling pages (in other words, pretty useless in many cases). this happens both in safe mode and when used normally, independent of what plugins are installed.
it's obviously a FF4 bug. when i look at the MAC OS console, i get this:
21/06/11 11:58:50 /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin[1208] dnssd_clientstub deliver_request: socketpair failed 24 (Too many open files) -->> this message appears more than 500 times

Firefox 4 started crashing about two weeks ago after working fine, just like earlier versions. I've now updated to FF 5 and am still getting the same problem. FF crashes every time I access either Youtube (search or play) and Kijiji (search) My OS is Windows 7 (64-bit) with all updates current.

There seems to be a rash of resurrected old threads.
For best help for your problem strongly suggest you start a new thread with a question about your particular problem(s) and the circumstances with full details of your set-up - extensions, plug-ins, third party toolbars.
OP here;
Seems this thread did nothing as Firefox doesn't care. I posted this months ago, and Mozilla has not addressed the issue despite the heavy traffic. btw I have also had issues with youtube, seems that firefox doesn't recognize that I have attempted to install Flash 6 times, and nothing....

Versions 4 and 5 both crashed continuously for me. Since deleting them and reinstalling 3.6 everything's fine. I've learned "new and improved" is rarely either.
