Some add-ons need to be uninstalled through Windows' Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you list the names of the add-ons that are causing a problem, you could get more specific feedback.

You can try to uninstall the extensions in Safe mode

If you have many extensions then you can first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem. Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.

You can delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled extensions that are not compatible on the next start in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button to do a compatibility check.

the malware widgi toolbar platform does not appear to allow uninstall. this needs to be removed as it is invasive to firefox. looks like someone has found a loophole in firefox.

Have you tried using Malwarebytes to remove that toolbar?
That program is said to work removing it from IE, hopefully it will remove it from Firefox , too.

somebody stole my line of questions. I have as stated at the beginning, addons that do NOT uninstall. By trying the 1st provided idea, I was able to uninstall several of them. I had included the addon list in the initial post, it has also disappeared. Now I have 2 versions of JAVA in the list, I can disable but not uninstall. plus in program add/remove list there is only one Java entry. Malaware does nothing to my addons, removing files from profile concerning extensions/addons. Java 1 and 2 are still there. I will uninstall JAVA and see if that helps. of course I need java for OO 3 but thats another time and place.

actually it has hidden itself quite well all of the add-on show up in the reg-editor except the widgi add-on. like i said someone has found an hole in firefox. i have it disabled, but i still need to get rid of it

Hey, I had this problem and found a way to solve it. (For me) It's basically a spyware/malware/adware. It installs itself and hides it very well. My solution/scenario may be different from a few people with this problem, but for me i found it in a "Spigot" folder (Which is ALSO a virus) in "c:/user/programs(x86)/common files/spigot...)" To remove it, I used the free version of Malwarebyte's Antimalware. (You should be able to use any solid antimalware program, and either do a full system scan, or just scan the selected folder.) My Norton antivirus did NOT detect it, which is sad. That's why it's always good to have an anti malware program as backup.

I looked and found it exactly where you said it would be, RS24! I did a search for Widgi and Spigot and nothing came up but when I clicked away at the folders there it was. I'm running MalwareBytes right now. Thank you very much. Removal is so much easier once you know where it's hiding.

I had symilar problem yesterday 3/9/11 download malwarebytes free, update, run full scan. you will probabley find it's adware.widgi a malicious toolbar.
