Firefox is freezing every 20 seconds for 5 secs. CPU usage goes to 70%

Firefox will freeze up every 15-20 seconds. The Firefox CPU usage goes to about 70%. This is especially noticable on videos which pause when this happens. I have seen other mentions of this problem, but no help curing. It is driving me bugnuts.

Firefox ver 3.5.11 - PC: Quad Core, Server 2008, 2g ram. Happens when this is the ONLY app running and only one tab. This is definitely FF doing this. When it is closed, PC works perfect.

I have the same problem with FF v.3.6.8. 

How do I know which addon is lagging the computer?

Or May be I have too many open tabs ?

Downgrade to 3.5.11 and just avoid 3.6 altogether, it's got far too many bugs which are NOT being addressed by the developers. I have lost all confidence in 3.6 and I have suspicions about how secure it is with all the memory leaks and bugs.
