The signature (Firefox 3.6.3 Crash Report [[@ avgssff.dll@0x9943 ] ) of your crash report ID points to a problem with AVG software.

If you have any AVG extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) then try to disable them.

AVG is not the problem - it is the Adobe plugin that triggers the crash.

Evidence :

Flash works perfectly in Internet Explorer. Firefox works when Flash not present or disabled. Firefox crashes when Flash enabled and any site requiring the plug-in to be used is accessed. Firefox fails to give any warning message or explanation. Disabling any other plu-ins makes no difference. AVG has been uninstalled and an alternative anti-virus put into use.

Problem started earlier in June when version 10.1r53 (10.1.53.64) of Adobe flash plug-in appeared. The problem did NOT exist until early June.

Uninstalling flash and reinstalling does not cure the problem.

Affects Firefox 3.6.3 and 3.6.4

Operating System in use : Windows XP with service pack 3.

It is possible that the new Flash version is causing it. There are indications that Adobe rushed out that 10.1 version to close a security vulnerability and that the 10.1 version wasn't yet good enough.

You can try the previous version Flash 10.0 r47 but that will make you vulnerable again. Older Flash versions here: http://www.oldapps.com/Macromedia_Flash_Player.htm

I have obtained a copy of 10.0 Flash as suggested but it will not install. How do I bypass Adobe's insistence that I get the latest version instead?

Since posting I realised that disabling the network connection would solve the install issue. It has and 10.0.45.2 is installed.

An lo, it all works. Adobe should hang its head in utter shame for releasing a failure version.

Interestingly, the 10.1 version also appears to have screwed up Google's autofill arrangement as well!

Incidentally, archive versions of software are also available direct from Adobe.

But I think cor-el was right coz after I had disabled the AVG plug-ins firefox has not crashed...........But I also agree with what John said....coz firefox never crashes if flash is disabled irrespective of whether AVG is enabled or not.........I think maybe the two plugins cant work together......WILD GUESS...:-p

I am convinced the problem is Adobe's plug-in. Indeed, Sameer's posting supports that.

I switched to the Avast anti-virus software and the problem of Firefox crashing with the Adobe plug-in enabled remained exactly as before.

To be certain that it was a conflict between AVG and Adobe the problem would have to exist only on computers using AVG, a situation I have proven not to be true.

Adobe plug-in version 10.0.45 worked happily with AVG - and is now doing so with Avast.

It is clear that the problem originates with the Adobe 10.1 plug-in: 1. No problem until 10.1r53 was released and installed, 2. No difference dependent on the anti-virus software in use, and 3. The plug-in also affected auto-fill in Firefox and in Internet Explorer.

Problem started after updating Firefox, I repeat, when I updated Adobe Flash Player, everything worked ok, but as soon I updated Firefox, the crashing came back, same happened 7+ months ago. I think I may leave Firefox for good, I am done!

The problem I raised occured in June 2010 and is Flash caused. 7 months ago, with earlier releases of Firefox, is irrelevant to the reported (and now solved) problem.

With 10.0.45.2 Firefox 3.6.4 still crashes, consistently. It works great with Chrome and Safari [they use the same DLL] and IE 7.0 is working fine.. Once Flash is disabled Firefox works good. I do not want to go further down to 9.0 versions.. Any suggestions. I am considering to roll back to earlier version of FireFox.

Same problem! Adobe crashes every time Flash Plug in is enabled. When I disable it, no crash. With the security issues in earlier versions of Adobe, I'm contemplating giving up on Firefox for the time being, when it comes to enabling content. Good Grief, I have crashed over 200x in the last 2 days, but managed to narrow it down to enabling Adobe Flash, on sites such as Youtube, Myspace, Kmart, etc, that utilize Flash, I guess I have to switch to Apple's Safari. At least for now, I can trust it not to crash. IE also briefly crashed, so it was not just FF. Any ideas?

I don't know why I received an emergency upgrade from Firefox to 3.6.6 Well, I already did something 3 days before, but after I did this upgrade, it isn't crashing, but my Farmville game was freezing with that something new shade that comes when there is any notifications or request in the farm. Yestedray it kept coming and going with no message showing, so I had to seed for a long long time, and reloading and turning off my computer, until at last I could seed all my farm.....ffffffeeeeeoooooooohhhhh!  :O

I can confirm that FF 3.6.6 will crash when it attempts to play Flash media with the Shockwave Flash v10.1.53.64 (10.1.r53) enabled. Disable flash, FF doesn't crash. XP Pro / SP3...

It didn't happen before I upgraded from 3.6.4 to 3.6.6, but this is a new laptop, so I may not have exercised 3.6.4 sufficiently...

i have windows 7 x64 business edition with firefox 3.6.6. and the latest version of flash let's firefox crash each time a site opens with flash

so it's definitely a problem for adobe to solve, not mozilla :) let's hope adobe is fast!

I solved it, I just changed to IE and downloaded the latest version of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX. Everything set now!

because just downloading the latest flash with chrome or ie does not fix it. it does enable flash in chrome and ie, but flash can still crash my firefox
