Downloaded Firefox, but it does not open despite clicking on it

I was able to download and open Firefox after I had to re-install windows afresh (my hard drive crashed). After a few days, I did the backup from my external hard drive. Since the back up, the Firefox browser does not open. I have tried re-installing, un-installing and re-installing but nothing works. Firefox simply does not open.
