How can I prevent firefox from DELETING all my bookmarks EVER AGAIN! FUCK!!!!! They did some kind of screwy update and reverted my bookmarks back by 6 months and I can't get them back. And yes, I saw all the backups they "stored" but they are not in there.

Hi thomas7121,

I’m really sorry this happened — losing bookmarks after an update is extremely stressful.

In most cases, Firefox does **not actually delete bookmarks during updates**. What usually happens is that they are still on your system, but Firefox is using a different profile or failed to load the correct data.

What you can try (quick steps):

  • Open the address bar and type: `about:profiles`
  • Look for another profile listed there and click Launch profile
  • Check if your bookmarks appear in that profile
  • If you find them, click Set as default profile

Also check:

  • Menu → Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup → Restore
  • Try any available automatic backup date

Important

In most cases like this, the bookmarks are still on disk — they’re just tied to another Firefox profile created after the update.

If none of the profiles or backups contain them, then unfortunately they may not be recoverable, but in a lot of cases the old profile is still there.
