firefox is stalling on ubuntu 24
firefox stalls on ubuntu and the OS says it is running but I cannot or don't know how to restart/reset it from the terminal. A reboot of the computer solves the issue but I have to re enter the bios password etc. Is there a simple solution?

When the OS says it's running and you don't see it, run ps- fe | grep firefox from the cmd line and pull it... I mean kill it. Watching 9/11 docs. ;-)) You may also have a tool installed that will show what's running. I would also recommend you run both, your distro and Mozilla version of Firefox as a back up. Just use sync to have your data in both browsers in case one of them goes BOOM. I also have Firefox on several devices. see old screenshot
Did you try with Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode cmd line: firefox -safe-mode This cmd will also give you the option to Refresh Firefox. Use it if you're stuck.
Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Hello once again, this issue is persisting and the simple solution is just to shut down the machine and then put my bios pw in and then login as linux user.
I installed opera as an alternative, but the firefox issue is "hogging" the processor by the looks. The problem is I cannot interact at all with the firefox GUI, no functionality whatsoever. Terminal is the same, it hangs as if firefox is doing something which it is not, but the output to the terminal is that firefox is running and do I want to force shut or wait? This option is not actually executed.
Any commands related to firefox to kill, -safe-mode etc will not run, they too will hang. Opera then too senses something is processing and will not open either via the icon or direct from terminal. Access to the web is basically not functional. There is some mention of lock files somewhere out there on the net for firefox and they need to be deleted but I am not sure which directory they are in, which makes some sense, as the software/application is basically locked in that it is stalled and using the processor.
Are you able to offer any more assistance with this because it is driving me a little nutty?
