I don't know what's happening but since a couple of days, let's say Wednesday 13th November, my firefox got incredibly slow: everytime I insert a url or a link in the address bar and press enter it takes a lot of time to completely load the website.

I tried to use Edge instead, and Edge is working flawlessly, while Firefox is not.

I also did a fresh install, wiping the %APPDATA% folders too, but nothing changes.

Setup:

  • Firefox version 132.0.2
  • on Windows 10
  • Firefox and Windows are 64 bit

Here is the add-on I use to see load times. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/load-time/ Post a similar screenshot showing the slowness. see old screenshot Just telling us doesn't help us help you. What are your dns settings in the browser, computer, and router? Are they all the same?

Hi jonzn4SUSE, thanks for your answer, I downloaded "Load Time" and took a couple of screenshot with a Google search and with Youtube, as you can see the load time is quite long, with "DOM processing" being the culprit.

> What are your dns settings in the browser, computer, and router? Are they all the same? I never touched the settings in my browser and in my computer.

  • My computer DNS settings are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically"
  • Firefox DNS over HTTPS is not enabled
  • While trying to understand and fix this issue I set my router to use OpenDNS, but it didn't make a difference

I blame OpenDNS. Do a traceroute to opendns 208.67.222.222, then to cloudflare 1.1.1.1, and then google 8.8.8.8 to see who responds faster and has less hops. World... The time has come to... make the change!  ;-)) This is not a browser issue.

Hey, thanks for your answer but I had this issue with Firefox before trying OpenDNS, in fact I tried OpenDNS to see if anything changed (it did not).

Since Firefox continued to be slow, I simply decided to reformat my PC and now firefox works again as fast as it should. Thanks anyways :)
