Firefox stopped working all of a sudden and I get this message: VCRUNTIME140_dll not found I've tried loading and reloading and re-installing and switching computer on and off and trying again and all I get is this message: VCRUNTIME140_dll not found I think it could be a hacker, but how do I get Firefox back up and running?

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022":

You may also have to install the Visual Studio 2013 Redistributable Package. You need to reboot the computer.

The 'solution' as defined above is not my problem. The problem lies with Firefox. If they do not provide the solution then I will just stop using Firefox. There are plenty of other browsers to use. I'll wait until Firefox comes up with a simple solution. I'm a 'dummy' and cannot figure out a way of even properly uninstalling Firefox to be able to download and reinstall it. So, it is good bye to Firefox until they find a solution for me.

The solution defined above is not so much a problem, more of a solution.

You may not need to uninstall and reinstall to do this and the solution described above should resolve the issue that you are seeing.

Firefox doesn't install the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll library when you install Firefox, but needs it to work properly. Windows keeps a counter on such DLL files and increments its counter when application install and registers this file. When you uninstall such an application then this counter gets decremented and when the counter reaches zero then it removes the file what causes other applications that use this file to fail. If you get this error that the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll file is missing then you most likely recently uninstalled an application that was using this file causing its counter to reach zero.
