I followed instructions for getting them back, but got stuck at the Library. I said restore and chose a date, but I get an error message: Unable to process the backup file.

How did you lose the bookmarks?

What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .

jscher2000 has a tool on his website to extract out your bookmarks and save them to an HTML-format bookmark export file. If you want to try it, here is the page:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

To open the bookmarkbackups folder in Finder, use the "Open in Finder" button in the first table on the Troubleshooting Information page, and double-click into bookmarkbackups where you should see several dated files. From there you can drag and drop onto the conversion tool.

To import the HTML file, see the steps in this article: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.

I lost the bookmarks on my Mac when it crashed. Apple wiped the machine clean and I restored from Time Machine, but of course that doesn't replace my Firefox bookmarks.

I do appreciate your suggestion, Fred! I went to the link you provided, and it asks me to drag and drop a bookmark file to it. But I have no bookmark file. I've been to Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks, and in the Library, I chose Restore and a recent date. All I get is an error message saying Unable to process the backup file.

The worst part is that I took my Mac to an Apple store, and a genius there replaced all my Firefox bookmarks -- yay! -- but then the next day, Apple erased everything and just reinstalled the operating system. And I can't reach the helpful genius now.

Aargh. If you have any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks!!

Hi Charlie, 1. In Finder, go to Go > Go to Folder 2. Enter the following: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox

That folder contains all of your Firefox user data. You should be able to find that folder in Time Machine and copy it.
