Hello I am on new Windows 10 32 bit installation for the last week and have installed latest Firefox (98.0 32 bit) with some addons. Unfortunately, occasionally when I start Firefox it will freeze just before opening and I have to press ctrl + alt + del to shut it down. This is very annoying as it happens a few times every day. Is there some way to alleviate this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hello again and sorry for taking some to reply.

I have formatted my pc and installed everything from start. It seems that the freezing situation when starting has gone away, however I have not come to a conclusion as to what was causing it. However I still have the problem where FF will shut down, especially when viewing pages with videos on Facebook. Would it be possible to send some crash reports for someone to take a look? Thanks in advance.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Basically, an OOM (Out Of Memory) means the system is having issues with the RAM.

MemTest Could you please run a tool from http://memtest.org/ in order to check the integrity of your RAM?

You will need a thumb or disk drive to install it on.

Do you let Windows handle the page file or did you set a fixed size ? Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings

If you use a fixed size for the page file then try the former and let Windows handle the page file. How to determine the appropriate page file size for 64-bit versions of Windows {web link}

No rush, sorry to hear you were in hospital, hope all is well with you now.

I will try testing with memtest and get back with the results, think I tested the RAM before and it passed the test with no errors.

I think the Windows pagefile is managed automatically by Windows, will check again.

In my first post, I mentioned that due to some old apps I use, I am on a x86 installation and although I got 16gb of RAM installed, only 3,21 are usable. Could that be the reason Firefox is crashing?

That I don't know. You should also try asking here: https://support.microsoft.com

If the system is running out of RAM, you can try closing unessesary background applications, including the ones in your system tray. They might be nibbling on RAM in the background. Additionally to contacting Microsoft, you can also contact your PC/Laptop's manufactorer, especially if there's a valid warranty on your device.
