Firefox unable to load websites/start up even when uninstalled and reinstalled since latest update
I'm currently on chrome typing this, but I need a way to get firefox working again, there is no specific error message but whenever I reinstall and try to "refresh firefox" either on uninstall or reinstall which removes extensions and other settings, I get a crash and very long error message below. I've tried removing the firefox folder in %appdata% after uninstall and still no dice.
I will also only be able to open firefox once on a fresh reinstall when running it with administrator permissions but then never again until the next uninstall and reinstall. See attached screenshot for what firefox looks like at that point. None of the side buttons work, and I cannot search any websites or click the back/refresh buttons. The only button that does anything is "refresh firefox", but when I click it, Firefox closes, gives a crash message about a minute later, and never opens back up again.

I saw Webroot somewhere in there, so I think the first thing to mention is a conflict with 64-bit Firefox 97.
Both Webroot and Mozilla are working on fixes, but until then:
A couple users confirmed that uninstalling and reinstalling WebRoot resolved the issue.
If you can't do that or it doesn't work, several other users confirmed that one temporary workaround is to run Firefox 97 in backwards compatibility mode. Here is how you would set that up:
(1) Open the Properties dialog for your Firefox shortcut. Either:
- right-click a Desktop shortcut, then click Properties
- right-click a pinned Taskbar icon, then right-click the Firefox (or Mozilla Firefox) item, then click Properties
(2) Switch to the Compatibility tab
(3) Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
(4) If the selector for that option is not set on Windows 8, switch it to Windows 8
(5) Click OK and then start Firefox (if Firefox won't start because it is already running, you might need to restart Windows)
As a result of this change, you may notice that some Windows 10-specific features and styling are disabled. However, I am not aware of any major changes. If you experiment with this, let us know your experience.

If you can't do that or it doesn't work, several other users confirmed that one temporary workaround is to run Firefox 97 in backwards compatibility mode. Here is how you would set that up:
(1) Open the Properties dialog for your Firefox shortcut. Either:
- right-click a Desktop shortcut, then click Properties
- right-click a pinned Taskbar icon, then right-click the Firefox (or Mozilla Firefox) item, then click Properties
(2) Switch to the Compatibility tab
(3) Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
(4) If the selector for that option is not set on Windows 8, switch it to Windows 8
(5) Click OK and then start Firefox (if Firefox won't start because it is already running, you might need to restart Windows)
As a result of this change, you may notice that some Windows 10-specific features and styling are disabled. However, I am not aware of any major changes. If you experiment with this, let us know your experience.

The suggestion you gave for running Firefox in compatibility mode does work with no performance issues so far, though it seems all bookmarks and extensions are wiped. While I can use Firefox now it's practically no different from using Chrome at the moment since both are blank slates. Would Firefox automatically send a notification to update to the latest version once the next version which (hopefully) fixes this comes out? I don't want to miss it due to keeping it in compatibility mode for now.
Firefox will still get updates.
When you removed the %APPDATA%\Firefox folder, did you back it up somewhere, or can you fish it out of the Recycle Bin? That's where all your data is/was.
Restored the oldest copy from recycle bin, everything's back now, hope that the next update doesn't break it again. Cheers!
