When I enter my SMS code as part of SSL/TLS security OAuth2 authentication method (see my account5 below) I get the following: __________________________________________________ Need admin approval Thunderbird www.thunderbird.net

Thunderbird needs permission to access resources in your organisation that only an admin can grant. Please ask an admin to grant permission to this app before you can use it. Have an admin account? Sign in with that account Return to the application without granting consent __________________________________________________

I don't know what app is being refered to in the above message but I am the administrator of my account and have given full permissions for Thunderbird to cross Windows Firewall etc. etc.

Since this problem started this morning I get the busy rotating symbol when accessing my account5 mail directories and their contents do not appear to be updating.

If the account worked with the current settings until today, what happened, either at the O365 site or on your computer, e.g. a security app update, that could have caused it to stop working?

Is account 5 an Office365 account or a consumer outlook.com account, like account 1, which uses normal password authentication?

more options

As shown in my Troubleshooting information I think, it is an outlook.office365.com account using OAuth2 authentification that my organisation switched to some months ago for the continuation of members' email services. My other outlook.office365.com account1 is normal password (different organisation) and it works using Thunderbird as always. Also account5 log in through outlook.office365.com site uses Outlook rather than Thunderbird and works. My personal preference is to use Thunderbird and it had worked well with current setup until today.

Thanks sfhowes for the observation. I returned my system to an automatically created Windows recovery point dated just before problems arose. After a blue screen during that recovery process and a manual restart again I have Thunderbird working (for now). Unfortunately I could not find a list of updates rolled back by the recovery process but I did check Thunderbird version because I think I did unusually let it update recently. In any case Thunderbird v.91.3.0esr is running well now while it was v.91.4.0 running when I had problems. ALSO, when I setup accounts on another computer attempting to solve the problem Yesterday, I had to update the Thunderbird version on it to get one with the OAuth2 authentication and chose the latest 91.4.0, IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BEHAVIOUR. Therefore I think there may be a bug in the latest Thunderbird v.91.4.0 but I am too exhausted to update again and check it for now.
