A few days ago I started to get random popup ads. All of a sudden an ad will op up that says something like "you are at rusk, get Macafee" or "get Norton" etc. The ads pop up in the center of my screen and are about 20% the size of my screen. I have to click the x to get them to close. Sometimes there is the "don`t show me this again" option at the bottom left but even when I click ok the ads continue to pop up.

I`ve tried a few things but can`t figure it out. I`m retired and not a geek so it can get pretty frustrating pretty quick. I`ve lost my patience to scour through help articles looking for the exact sentence I need.

A step by step tutorial would be nice, thank you. I am using a laptop with windows 8.1. I use Firefox.

Thanks David

An ad-blocker can stop most ads sent by the website. Some like one while others like another.

Here are a pair that most use; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-for-firefox

You will have to decide what is best for you. Each has its own support/help links and forums to get any extra help.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad blocker.

Thanks for the replies but neither are of much help to me. Both suggestions lead to pages that are full of options. At 66 I`m too old to have the mental stamina to scour through pages of articles looking for help. It`s just the way of the world these days, information overload. If I were a betting man I`d say a geek would likely know how to fix the problem in under a minute. I`m sure glad I`m 66 and heading down the road and not 16 and just starting to head up the road.
