Installation on a new computer, retrieve old settings?
My old computer bricked itself. Hard drive, everything is toast. I have a new one but am wondering if there is a way to retrieve bookmarks, settings, etc. on a new Firefox install on the new computer, from my account perhaps? It seems to me that the last time I lost a computer and had to start over with Firefox on a new one everything reinstalled. I'm just about nonfunctional without all my stuff!

Is the old hard drive damaged or not working? If not you can mount it as an external drive on the new computer.
When you say bricked-itself, we dont know if maybe the motherboard became dysfunctional or it was the hard drive did.
But sometimes, while the operating system on the hard drive may no longer be operational, the file system is still intact.
So one of the first things to try is to extract the hd from the old computer and install it as a spare drive in the new one.
It can either be installed internally or externally with a hard drive enclosure kit.
Then see if the files are viewable. If so, then we can proceed to the next step.
However, you may be out of luck if the file system proves to be corrupted or the hd proves to be mechanically faulty
Thanks. No, the hard drive is dead. I already tried that. That's why I was hoping there was a way to retrieve the settings for a new install on a new machine. But, I guess not. You need a cloud backup for everything these days, I guess. Appreciate the responses, though.
I'm sorry that you dont have more options.
Of course, you could send the HD into a specialty company whereas they will remove the disk out of the hard drive and install it on a special device that can then be read and its contents sent to you.
In regards to the cloud, FireFox can store your user data onto its own cloud service via a methodology known as Sync-ing.
Did you happen to sync your old FF data before the machine bricked-out on you?

Note that sync is not meant as a backup. You could corrupt whatever is on the servers. Before trying, get instructions from us.
No, I hadn't synced it. I'll just have to start over, I guess. But, thanks. Some of the bookmarks may be on my old tablet which uses a different browser. Thanks for trying!
You're welcome.
Here are some methodologies you might try with the tablet and pc:
Try doing an export of the bookmarks on the tablet. Use all the export options to create the b.m. file into different formats. Then transfer those files to the new machine and do an import.
Also, while I cant b e, sure you may be able to connect the tablet to windows 10, like you would a smart phone. If so, the table will be seen as a drive.
Or from the tablet you can copy the exported bm file to a cloud. And from the pc, access that cloud account and download the file for importing.
Similarly, from the tablet you could create a FF account. Then sync the data up to it. Then from the pc log in to the FF acct, and sync that data down to FF.
