How to revert to browser.tabs.ontop=false functionality in Firefox 89.x

more options

Subject says it all. "How to revert to 'browser.tabs.ontop=false' functionality in Firefox 89.x?" I hate the Proton layout where tabs are now positioned at the top. I want to revert to what I had before — via an add-on, I think — because the new style creates visual dissonance. I HATE the new style. I want a layout that does not do my head in. I do not care that someone(s) in the development team thinks tabs.ontop is better; it is not better for me.

Sorry but I have more important things to do — attending my chemotherapy sessions — than investigate some arcane syntax and guess what changes to make that might produce the simple result I want of the tab bar appearing below the address var; really it cannot be that hard to have a user level fix for this.

The old browser.tabs.ontop preferences was removed more than 7 years ago in Firefox 29. Extensions stopped being able to change the order in November 2017 with the release of Firefox 57. Everyone has been using arcane syntax for this since then.
