I just learned that there is no solution to the where is my bookmark question I have been asking for the past several days. Apparently, it's beyond the group's expertise. Since there is no solution, may I recommend that you get rid of the last update in the next update? I used to have no problem with bookmarks. A temporary fix is to create a spreadsheet on your own (using excel or openoffice) of frequently used urls. then if you start typing it in, the url should come up. I hadn't thought of that, but it seems the only way. DIY solution. Bernie

I assume that you now understand what a bookmark is and how to use them.

Firefox should remember the location where you last saved a bookmark like when you click the star on the location bar to bookmark the current tab in the folder field in the edit bookmark dialog. You can modify the name (title) you see in the location bar, either when you create the bookmark or at any time by clicking the highlighted star or via the right-click context menu and in the sidebar (Ctrl+B) or Bookmarks Manager (Library).

This last used folder location is stored in a pref on the about:config page, so you may have issues with the prefs if that isn't working for you (i.e. that last used folder isn't selected if you click the star).

  • browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation [toolbar|menu|unfiled|guid]

The 'toolbar' setting is about the Bookmarks Toolbar. the 'menu' setting is about the bookmarks menu (Alt+B) and 'unfiled' is about the Other Bookmarks folder that was the default folder in older Firefox version. The 'guid' value is the 12 character random string that is used internally to specify a bookmarks folder.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue". You can start typing "defaultLocation" in the search bar until you see browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation

I think what Firefox has done is incredibly inconsiderate to it's users. They should have been able to allow the users to re-establish ALL of their bookmarks with a single click or better yet, simply never to have done away with them in the first place!
