Hi Mohammed, Mozilla does not have a copy of your data unless you were using a Firefox Account with Firefox Sync to copy data between different installations of Firefox. This data is encrypted and can only be made usable with the same Firefox Account password you were using at the time.

So you have checked this:

  • Other Profile(s) on about:profiles, Restore menu, no (recent) backups?

Do you have an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop?

Otherwise:

During updates, and at other times, Windows may capture a snapshot of your Firefox profile folder in a Shadow Copy. You can use a utility program to search inside restore points to try to locate an old file that's usable. (Please do NOT try to use the built-in Windows System Restore for this because you probably would lose data.)

First, set Windows to show hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then download and run one of these two programs:

Within the most recent restore point shown in the program, you can explore along this path to see whether you can find a shadow copy of your profile:

\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your-profile

You can export recent files from the bookmarkbackups folder to a convenient location such as your currently live desktop.

Hope this helps.

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Restore. From the list, pick the file you want and click it.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTH ya0JmicnYWg4V4g==.jsonlz4

In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.

If you notice you lost bookmarks or accidentally deleted bookmark(s) and you haven't closed Firefox yet then you can use "Organize -> Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks) to undo this action and restore bookmark(s) you deleted accidentally or otherwise lost/misplaced. You may have to use Undo more than once (Firefox keeps a full undo stack of changes to bookmarks for the current session). Otherwise you can restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

This will replace all current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created, so you may want to create an HTML backup beforehand and import this backup afterward.

Hello guys,

Unfortunately, that didn't work. Nothing was there.

Any idea?

How did you delete your bookmarks, do you remember what you did?

If you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates, release any file locks, and address occasional permission glitches.

If Firefox again starts up without your data, could you check whether your stuff is available in a different profile, as follows:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Let us know what you find.

Do you mean that there aren't any automatically created compressed .jsonlz4 backups in the bookmarkbackups folder ?

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder. You can set how many backups are kept by doing this;

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.bookmarks.max_backups

The values for this setting are; -1 = unlimited number of backups 0 = Do not create any backups Any other number here will keep that many backups Example: 5 = 5 backups are kept.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTHya0JmicnYWg4V4g ==.jsonlz4 In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.

Hello,

Thank you for your replies,

I tried all the solutions you provided me with, I only found new bookmark backups created after I deleted my original Bookmarks.

Do you think I can find them if I contact Mozilla? Maybe they have backups on their servers. If so, please let me know how to get in touch with them.

Thanks.
