Firefox is no longer retaining tab history and is not loading the start page

Hi, something happened recently with an update or something where Restore Previous Session is grayed out, the start page is not loading, and tab icons are lost as I'm forced to use Tab Session Manager every time I'm forced to close Firefox to restart it due to lag or something. I'm currently in Firefox 81.0 and it is making we want to find someone who can help me downgrade to Firefox 70 or Firefox 50 depending on when the issue started or where something got broken with an update. I think what is going on is you are rushing to get updates out to compete against someone else and that is leading to random issues, and that needs to change as you need to stop worrying about whether or not you lose users. Right now, I can't even use Facebook share anymore and is making me want to switch to a different browser because of this.

You may have corrupt sessionstore [v56] sessionstore.jsonlz4 file(s). Delete all sessionstore* files and the sessionstore-backups folder.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Don't delete the files if you need to rescue any data from them, just move them out of the profile folder to some location where Firefox doesn't look for them. You can try to read out their contents using this tool: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/scrounger.html

Hi erikmouse1, is your Firefox storing history normally? Session history is part of history, so settings to clear history, or running in automatic private browsing mode, will prevent Firefox from being able to restore your session.

Regarding Facebook share, take a look at any blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature, and extensions that counter ads and tracking, may break websites that embed third party content (meaning, from a secondary server).

(A) The Facebook Container extension breaks connectivity between Facebook and non-Facebook sites.

(B) The shield icon toward the left end of the address bar usually turns a bit purplish when content is blocked. Click the icon to learn more or make an exception. See: Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop.

(C) Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix usually provide a toolbar button to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you sometimes need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.
