After all these years, favicons still don't sync? Tell me this isn't so, that I'm doing something wrong. No way in hell I'm going to go through opening ~1,200 bookmarks just to make favicons sync.

No, bookmark icons don't sync through Firefox Sync. There are a couple of reasons for this: It greatly increases the size of the data being sent through Firefox Sync and there is a privacy concern with sending that information through Firefox Sync.
Generally, I recommend the Checkmarks add-on. It opens up the bookmarks for you to restore the icons.
