I don'tr know what this would fall under. So I chose other

I cannot use this browser anymore. At first I thought it was web root, because on the options page it said, "this browser is run by this organiztion" or some such crap. and if I click on it, it said webroot.

I CONTROL THIS, I AM THE ORGANIZATION. SO I GOT RID OF WEBROOT.

Once again, when i made FIREFOX THE DEFAULT, IT CHANGES ,MY OTHER DEFAULTS. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE, I DON'T KNOW OF ANYONE WHO WOULD USE A BROWSER THAT DOES THAT. iT CHANGES MY PDF FILES INTO LITTLE ICONS OF FIREFOX AND IT DOESN'T GO TO MY EMAIL WHEN I CLICK AN EMAIL LINK IT GOES TO A BOX. I NEVER SET A THING TO DO THAT. I LOOKED ALL OVER THE SETTINGS, AND I CAN'T TELL WHAT IN THE WORLD WOULD CAUSE IT TO DO THAT. I JUST END UP HAVING TO USE CHROME, WHICH IS LIKE TELLING THE WORLD WHAT YOU ARE DOING; SHAME ON YOU FIREFOX, THIS IS A SCREWY AND VERY BAD THING.

It isn't just pdf file. This is definitely a moxilla firefox problem. It effects my email, my audio choice, and I believe not it is also the problem that caused two mice to stop working. there is some setting that is re-setting my default settings, not just pdf. It started after I reinstalled firefox, which I must presume is a newer version. I am blown away at all the horrible default things this browser does as it is which I know how to change. I CANNOT FATHOM that it would set as a default to keep passwords. That is EXTREMELY DANGERSOUS and how I got two of my card numbers hacked. Very very bad. Firefox needs to be conservative with the defaults, not balls to the wall. It has all this advertizing, all these photos that have nothign to do with me. But at least I know how to create a blank page or one that i want. This just is a newer version that has done sometbhign with the settings. I can't figure it out. So I usee chrome now. I cannot endure clicking a link that should open my email and I get this box instead, it doesn't even ha e my outlook. sad. This is the problem -- too much tinkering with this browser. Whoever keeps doing that needs to just leave well enough alone.

It sounds like you picked up adware or some program that is causing

"It has all this advertizing, all these photos that have nothign to do with me"

Did you download any 'free' program or game ?

Did you run an antivirus or malwarebytes

No that is not it. It is the default setting of the browser when you first install it. Firefox has it save passwords. It has the front page or as soon as you open the browser, it is filled in with this and that -- called highlights and snippets. It should be blank, with a guide to have this is one wants. It is a setting in firefox, and it is not clear which.

What is causing the change in default, it is a setting in firefox, i want to be clear, just like the default setting is to keep passwords. They ought to also state that, or just change it, because people do not know nor would most people assume that is a default setting.

OK I see. What version of firefox is it? You should be able to get rid of snippets.

What is your home page set to? What is each new tab set to?

can you put a screenshot?

I can't believe this. In my original request, I stated I know how to get rid of those and set the home page. It is the other things the browser is doing.

I really wish they would leave firefox alone. It was good enough the way it was. Constantly tampering with it causes issues. It is now changing some default programs when I make it my default browser, which I can't do. I have to use chrome. That is the problem.

sort it out yourself then

I don't understand why people get irked when people who need help provide all the info, but 1) a robo responder first responds and doesn't solve it and every subsequent person doesn't read what we write -- just presumes. I have sorted it out: I use chrome. It is obviously something that firefox changed in its settings and it is not obvious.

Hi Gina, I'll help you. If I understand correctly, you're saying that when you set Firefox as the default browser, and click on a mailto link, it does not open your default mail client. Is that correct?

You're also having the same problem, but with PDF links as well, correct?

What you're experiencing is not normal behaviour. First, let's try refreshing Firefox. This will purge a lot of your Firefox files, while retaining most of your personal data. For instructions, check out the following article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

If you still have the problem, we'll need some more info about your Firefox setup. Could you please follow the instructions in the following video to provide your troubleshooting information: https://youtu.be/8wKSowxEcbw

@OAKSFOX, if you're ever stumped and need assistance helping someone, you can always ping me on chat.mozilla.org.

Hi Chris and thanks for your help.

Just as I clicked the link in your email and the browser opened, the same thing happened all again. I see the pdf files three of which I am keeping on my desktop for now, and everything else that gets changed, changed. I had to put everything back to their defaults as I see them, such as pdf files adobe, etc.

No I know it's not normal, but I had a time a week or so ago when firefox would not open at all. So I uninstalled it and then re-downloaded and re-installed. After adjusting everything to my preferences, this thing with the default changes started. I did the same thing again, and it started again.

I totally got rid of webroot. I would see on the options page at the top of the page in a link in blue, something to the effect, "this is controlled by an organization" -- and when I clicked it was a written webroot, but it was writtrn in html.

If I do this, is this firefox going to revert to all the default things, such as all those things that firefox puts in the front page of its browser? GThe photos, the keeping my passwords? I am so not a fan of that. I cannot fathom what is causing firefox to do this. I did not even change browsers as a default, I just clicked the link you provided about refreshing.

Let me ask you something. Did that email you sent, the link it, did it cause firefox to become the default browser? Because I DO NOT do that, especially with it changing everything and me having to go into my notebook and open the defaults. I was focusing on what I wanted to ask, and would not have noticed right away and especially after seeing all the same SOS as they say altered as it does when I make firefox my default browser. I did not do that. Did that link vyou have do that?

If so, why would you do that? It caused the same issues to happen. It is surely not anything I choose myself. I would never just do such a thing to anyone. What browser to use is a very personal thing. Did that link, it had to be, change my browser preference?

Note that Firefox can take over PDF files and set itself as the default PDF viewer for Windows if it detects that there is currently no default PDF viewer set.

Hi Gina, I always have Firefox set as my default browser, but as a test, I set the default to something else, and tried clicking on a link in an email. If opened in my default browser, not Firefox.
