When I go to support, and type in "how do I find the current version of firefox for windows", I get: "Found 2923 results for ‘how do I find the current version of firefox for windows’ for ‘Firefox’ " but none address the issue of how to determine the most current version number. I notice Firefox says that I cannot upgrade, I must download a new version, with no explanation. The download is a version-unidentified executable called "Firefox installer.exe" I would consider this suspicious behavior in most downloaded software. What is going on? This seems like basic information that should be immediately available. I had a popup that said I am using the most current (71.0) version (I am using v 71.0), which appears to be incorrect. Googling this question has no Mozilla hits other than "Release Notes" which might lead one to guess 77.01, althoughn Wikipedia thinks just "77".

I had to create an account just o ask a forum question?

Hi dumpsterdan, the current release is Firefox 77.0, with a 77.0.1 update due out very soon. There is a master page linking to all the release notes:

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

Sometimes an updater is not able to span that many versions and you need to download a new installer. You can choose your specific installer from the following page:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

That type of information is shown in many different places in the Firefox UI (user interface), here are the two most prominent places that maybe used my many applications.

Using Help > About Firefox is one way to see the version of Firefox that is running.

This one is unique to Firefox.
And Help > Troubleshooting Information shows a lot more about your running Firefox version.

the-edmeister: Of course, this is not the question I asked. I know the version I am running; what I asked was, "how do I find the current version of firefox?" That, of course, cannot be determined from an application program running on my computer, which, by the way, I know is not the most current. I am curious, when I note the version I am currently running, you provide a way to identify the version I am currently running. How can this possibly be useful to me?

jscher2000: Are you saying that looking at the most recent release notes is the only way to determine the most current version? If that is indeed the case, what a disaster! There are release notes for 77.01; but it is not yet available? You have, however, created a response which google will locate in the future, erroneously identifying "..the current release is Firefox 77.0..." long after that is no longer true.

I am incredulous. This is not adequate project management. Take a look at https://www.chromium.org/developers/calendar which shows versions and release dates. That link will show the most current version even 5 years from now.

So, the answer appears to be" "this information is not available from Mozilla".

The current Firefox release can be found on this page.

This link will always bring you to the Release Notes of the current release.

No.
