Mailto link Are you talking about a Mailto link in a browser, if yes, what browser? Is the browser up to date?
Browser is Firefox 74.0 (up to date). When I view a web page that has a link which allows communications to a user, the link may be a word, such as "here". The lower left of my browser page reads: mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
Next, Thunderbird is loaded (my mail default is set correctly in Control Panel) and an email page pops up. Where the recipient normally would be: email@example.com I have been getting a blank field. So I copy the email by hand and paste it and the email goes.
Have not augmented FF with any add-ons lately, and this used to work fine. Not sure what changed recently. Suggestions appreciated.
If you right-click a file in Explorer, Send to - Mail Recipient, does a new TB message appear with the file attached? If not, it's because you have the same MAPI issue that makes mailto links not work. First thing is to check that you have a default account in TB. Tools/Account Settings, the account at the top of the left pane should be underlined. If you have a default account, one method that sometimes fixes broken MAPI is to download and run the full TB installer, set TB as the default client during (Advanced) setup, then restart the computer (important). If you have the 64-bit version, I would remove it and install the 32-bit version, as it seems to have fewer MAPI issues. Uninstalling and re-installing doesn't affect your data in the separate profile folder.

Thank you for your detailed procedure. Yes, my email is set as the default acct in TB (it is underlined). I then went to default programs in the Control Panel and, for mail, set TB as the default email program and exited. But when I tried the Send to mail recipient, it said:
There is no email program to perform the requested action. Please install an email program, and if one is installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
I did that, and now will reboot to see if it worked. Will post result tomorrow.

Re-boot did not change anything. My TB version is 32-bit. Suggestion to reinstall TB is a bit drastic for me, as I am extremely dependent on email and do not want to risk losing anything (took days to get back after resetting PC a few months ago). An acceptable alternative to automatic "mailto" is another option on the r-click menu, which says "send email to this id". I can live with that.
Thank you for your help!
