Repeatedly, Firefox just stops working and I have to force quit. Then, the icon shows with a superimposed question mark and won't open until reinstalled.

I have carefully followed reinstall instructions including dragging it to applications folder. This has happened at least five times in last month or so.

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

OS is Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6. Basically I think Firefox deleted itself? Anyway I can't start it, find it, or start it in safe mode, so I can't tell you what version it is, but I can tell you this happened about a week ago and we reinstalled it brand new using Safari so it's almost certainly the most recent version. Thanks.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.


Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

This and many other things I've tried haven't worked. Well, more specifically, I can get Firefox running and I can re-synch it with my profile (after clean reinstalling as you say, scrupulously deleting the folders you suggested) and it looks ok, but now it just turns off right in the middle of using, and I get the question mark icon. So far it's crashed 5 times I think today. Thanks.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>.

Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Thank you for trying, but there aren't any crash reports. I did verify that I signed into Firefox before running the report. Which is funny, because I don't even think it's working rn, I tried to go to preferences to synch it but it isn't responding. I can't even hit "quit firefox"- that's not responding either. I'll send this to you, restart computer again (force quit firefox) and try this all again, send you an update it anything changes.
