I've been using Thunderbird for years on Windows, but with my Windows 7 computer carking it, I have now crossed over :-) Passwords were automatically saved, and I could check them from time to time if I forgot. I've set Thunderbird up on the Mac, but can't see any option for passwords as I used to.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I think I've located it, but none of my passwords appear to have transfer over. Nor do they stay stored when I ask to save them. I have to keep entering them. Most frustrating! I won't really want to go back to Windows 7 just for this type of thing.

Did you transfer the profile from the W7 computer to the Mac? If you did, open the profile folder on the Mac (Help/Troubleshooting Information, click Show in Finder), close TB, delete pkcs11.txt. Restart TB and see if the passwords appear.

Thanks sfhowes :-) Did try that, but no go.

What did work was to start in Safe Mode. Magically, the passwords appeared in the Manager and Thunderbird downloaded emails without a hitch. As soon as I close the program and open it again (in normal mode), back to no passwords and having to enter them.

I'll just keep Thunderbird running in the background in Safe Mode :-) At least it's now working, even if it is in Safe Mode.

If it runs properly in safe mode, the problem is probably due to an incompatible add-on or broken layout. Launch in safe mode, check 'Disable all add-ons', click 'Make changes and restart'. If TB works properly, enable the Tools/Add-ons/Extensions one-at-a-time until you find the one(s) that causes the problem. If none can be found, launch again in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars and controls', click 'Make changes and restart'.

Hi sfhowes,

Thanks for your continued help. I tried your suggestions. I had actually deleted all the Addons. Checked the Reset Toolbars on start up. Still no luck.

Not to worry. Perhaps it's because it's on a Mac. At least it works in Safe mode :-)

As you can see in the kb article, safe mode disables other features besides add-ons, but I can't see how any of of them affect passwords.

You might want to try renaming or deleting or renaming the 3 files from the profile folder that contain password data, and see if TB then works in normal mode: key4.db, cert9.db and logins.json. You will have to enter passwords again, but they should be able to be stored in the password manager.
