thunderbird deleted all
dear Community - I'm submitting this matter a 2nd time because the first may not have 'got through'. On opening Thunderbird - it was void of all in formation other than the request to create and email account. Everything gone! Addresses - messages - data - names - Gone! Not Good. I re-instated my addresses - but as I say, all the previous data is gone. Or is it? Could it be stored somewhere back at Mozilla and just waiting for me to call it in? Any Suggestions? thanks - Jaybird

It is possible you updated and Thunderbird created a new default profile. Check the information at this link to see if you can simply reselect the original profile. https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/
thanks Toad-Hall - but my Thunderbird is different to yours. I can't get past Step1 because I don't get the same page as you after "Troubleshooting Information". Anyway, the world has not come to an end and I have now learnt that if Thunderbird is updated, even unintentionally, it will lay waste all that went before it ("you updated and Thunderbird created a new default profile.) - so I will not intentionally update. Thanks all the same for that straight forward explanation.
What you experienced looks like the common problem described here:

It is not related to any kind of update. There are a few methods for recovering your profile, which has not disappeared - TB just lost track of it.
thanks sfhowes - but I'm a bit too Dumb to pursue that course. I was hoping for a simple fix - find the stored emails and re-instate - zimple! I'll leave it that - It hasn't been a complete waste for me - I learnt a few things. Thanks to you and others who chipped in.
Go here thunderbird.net
Download and install the latest Thunderbird which will match the images in the link you were given and then try again. You will end up with the "addon manager" part of that link I think as your profile was "lost"
But if you stick with us we can get you there I think.
thanks Matt - and others - I installed the latest version and successfully set up my addresses. I will have a look at the earlier recommendations but I might just quit while I'm ahead and leave sleeping-dogs-lie. Earlier, I mentioned that this problem occurred only on one pc so luckily I still have old emails on my other pc. And though not all agree, I opted for POP - so that emails are kept locally. Thanks again All. Jaybird
The data for your 'lost' profile is probably still there, so if you want to transfer address books, mail, calendars etc. to the current, working profile, there are some instructions here:
