Do you always get the previous session restored?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Hello wojtek1092,

Would you please do this :

3-bar menu => Options => General => under "Startup":

Uncheck : "Restore previous session"

In case you want to disable the Session Restore crash recovery feature (which is enabled by default) - please see :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-previous-session

(you'll have to scroll down some)

See the second part of my post ....

Also see this thread :

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/altqlv/disable_session_restore/

When you're on the "about:config" page : Type in the search bar browser.sessionstore and see if maybe there are some prefs there that you'd like to
toggle .....

You can use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the browsing history. This will also prevent Firefox from restoring the previous session.

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an Allow exception you may want to keep

I marked in about: config all options like on reddit but still did not help, how do I turn off the browser and I turn on again and I click on restore session that will restore my previous sessions on the next tab so my problem looks, I want to disable this option completely

Did you try my above posted suggestion? As long as you keep history then there are traces of the previous session if that is what this is about. Or you can use Private Browsing mode.

I'll try to summarise :

When you start Firefox, you don't want you're previous session restored, but you want your homepage to open.

For some reason you don't want to disable the "Restore previous session" in Options => General => General.

Am I right so far, or am I totally misconstruing your question ?

Toggling preferences on the "about:config" page have no effect - after you've changed a value: did you then close and restart Firefox, in order for the change to take effect ?

in the firefox settings I turned off memorizing the history and opened cards I also turned off in the general options remembering previous sessions, closed and turned on firefox again, nothing that gave me in about config I marked everything as it was on reddit https://i.imgur.com/cmDclGp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/p4TJ1xm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xF2LHmT.jpg

 and browser.sessionstore.restore_tabs_lazily

So, you do want to restore the previous session, just not all the time. Unchecking "Restore previous session" on Options => General => Startup, isn't enough for you ....

You want to disable every "browser.sessionstore.restore" related preference on the "about:config" page - but : If you want to be able to restore the previous session from time to time, then you will have to set the value of this preference to true: browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand

more options

On-demand prefs like browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand are about reloading all tabs automatically or leave them in a pending state that requires to click the tab to load the page (useful in case there are hundreds of tabs to restore). It will still restore all the tabs.

The only way to prevent restoring tabs is via clearing history via "Clear history when Firefox closes" to prevent Firefox from creating sessionstore.jsonlz4. There is no (other) way to disable Session Restore.

more options

When you want (just like me) to be able to restore the previous session from time to time, but not at each startup : Unchecking the box in Options => General is all it takes to not have previous sessions restored at startup.

I have set "browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand" to "true". Previous sessions are restored when I want them to, and only when I want them to.

more options

My impression is that the OP wants to make it impossible to restore the previous session in most cases and only want to use this feature in special cases like when you haven't finished working on some tabs. Note that even closed tabs (25) and closed window (3) are stored as part of session data in sessionstore.jsonlz4.

more options

thanks for help, I set the browser options to delete history when closing the browser and in about config i have set "browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand" is false

more options

I personally prefer the (regular and pinned) on_demand prefs set to true to prevent Firefox from trying to load all tabs in case of issues or crashes or otherwise lots of tabs were open.

Does Firefox behave like you wish/prefer with those settings?
