Some PDFs do not load correctly

more options

For quite a few months now, Firefox will not display some PDFs correctly, if at all. I have the option set to preview PDFs in Firefox. Some times, FF gives a message that the PDF might not be displayed correctly and gives me the option to save it or open using some other viewer. Some times though, it doesn't display any message and things everything is ok.

A current example of the problem can be found at this URL: https://www.analog.com/media/en/training-seminars/tutorials/mt-014.pdf

I'm currently using 64-bit v65.0 build ID 20190124174741 in Win7 with full troubleshooting information included.

It displays ok for me in FF.

Have you tried it with FF-Safe Mode? (Restart with Add-ons Disabled.)

I did, and no joy. Interesting thing is I don't have this problem at home, only on my work computer. Both running Win7 and the same version of FF.

Firefox has problems when a PDF file is using some advanced features like filling forms, but this PDF file is working properly for me.

The Web Console shows this information: PDF 14b9a2e3c3a5655b1e415488296ef64a [1.4 Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 (Windows) / Acrobat PDFMaker 8.1 for Word] (PDF.js: 2.1.97)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Just tried it again in safe mode - no joy again. I've always been running in the default theme, so still not working correctly. I've seen differences in behavior between my work and home computers with other programs as well, when I've done things like explicitly copy configuration settings from one machine to another and they still don't behave the same.

Frustrating. Appreciate the effort!
