Printing to Adobe PDF causes Firefox to freeze
Just for the past few days 12-19-18 or so I've noticed this happening. I'll get an email, click "print" and it will open the email in a pop-up window. I select "Adobe PDF" as the printer, and then a window usually comes up showing the progress, and then it opens the pdf in Adobe Acrobat.
Recently, however, when that window comes up and shows the progress bar, it freezes. Sometimes I get error messages (shown in screenshots) but mostly I have to go to Task Manager, shut down firefox.exe processes, and I can't print the file to a PDF at all anymore. When I use this feature in Chrome, it works fine. I mean, it used to in Firefox, too, I don't know what changed.

That would mean the file is not pdf format or wasn't properly created in the pdf format to work or load correctly. You should first save it and open it to see if it was a actual pdf file or not.
Right, that's what Firefox is supposed to do. Instead of printing to a printer, you select "Print to Adobe PDF". It's supposed to create a PDF of the website/email you're printing, but it freezes now mid-process.

Do you get prompted for a file name when printing to the "Adobe PDF" virtual printer or is the printing process freezing before that step?
By the way, since you have Acrobat:
The Acrobat "Create PDF" extension integrates onto the main toolbar and also the right-click context menu. If you can cancel the Print dialog in the pop-up without the pop-up closing -- this varies from site to site -- you can use the Create PDF extension to convert the message to PDF.
If that is possible, the benefit is that links will work in the PDF (even if the link text doesn't match the full URL). On the other hand, converted pages that have web forms sometimes look strange.

It freezes after that step. I click OK, then it takes me to the "save as" menu, and freezes during that process now. All of Firefox freezes, according to Task Manager (not responding).
This has been how I print/make receipts for years now. Just in the past 2 days it freezes and I don't know why.

So in displaying the directory contents in the Save As dialog, it freezes? Or after you select the directory and OK the file name and the Adobe converter dialog comes up, it freezes?
For the first issue:
I don't know all the reasons the Save As dialog might freeze, but one thing users sometimes report is Firefox trying to access a disconnected network drive or removable storage device, which has a long time-out before Firefox gives up. Does either of those sound possibly relevant?
I don't know how to clear that up, actually; I'm not sure where Firefox stores the "folder to show when using Adobe PDF printer" information.
For the second issue:
I guess Adobe can only convert what Firefox provides, so if the Firefox progress bar (hidden behind the Adobe dialog in the following screenshot) isn't moving, that would explain why Adobe can't finish.
