Several times, 3-4? when updating my iphone, I have ended up with lakador on the MacBook Pro that I use. Every time it appears to be from or through the App Store, which I have always assumed was trustworthy. Every time I've done it using the iphone as the internet source, the phone update was not successful, but I ended up with lakador on the computer. When I used the public library as an internet source, the update was successful, but I again ended up with the lakador virus. When I look at Firefox preferences, it would seem that I should be notified that an untrustworthy malware was associated with the download, but that didn't happen. Thanks

Do you use macos or another os ?

Try to clean your os with an adware cleaner, here some links about these theme:

If you want, you can try to install chrome, under windows it has a malware scanner in the settings, under macos, you have to look in the support forum of chrome, if it exist.

Di you try XProtect under Macos ?

There doesn't seem to be a limit to programs, free or otherwise, available to detect and remove malware. My question was how the unwanted and malicious software got past the Firefox supposed screening with the Preferences settings.

If those malware action apps are coming through the App store then you need to contact them about it. firefox has no control over the app store that is a Apple support issue to resolve. The Browser isn't a Antivirus software that is a separate software to do that.

Thanks That's certainly a valid response, and I do realize that settings in Preferences are not antivirus software. I wasn't meaning Firefox was in any way responsible, I was more curious, because in the Preferences, it implies that it would warn you about malware coming with a particular download. Sorry for the confusion.

And now what you try to do, to solve this ? :)
