The browser was updated and now I can't save bookmarks as the entire menu with all my categories will not show. I have not found how to do this at your site.

Firefox has updated its browser. I am currently working on the updated ESR channel (I need to use Java) version 60.2. Now when I want to bookmark a page and click on the blue star I cannot see my entire list of folders in order to sort the page into the right place. I know they are still there because I can see them when I click "Bookmarks" at the top of the page but the functionality isn't there. I searched for an answer but nothing seems to fit my situation. Thanks.

Hi tek360, that's correct. The folder list is collapsed and you will need to expand it again. To expand the list within that box, you can either:

  • Mouse
    • click the little triangle to the left of the folder name
    • double-click the folder name
  • Keyboard
    • click anything, then press the down arrow to the folder you want to open, then press the right arrow key

Does that work on yours?

If you only see the main (root) bookmarks folders in the full folder list that opens via Choose or if you click the second button at the far right and not the folders they contain then this means the folders are collapsed and the need to double-click a folder to expand this folder. There would normally be a, possibly faint, arrow (sometimes named twisty) that shows the current state (horizontal pointing when collapsed and down pointing when expanded).

The little icon to the left of the folder name may vary depending on your OS. This was from Firefox 59 on Windows 7:

To expand a folder, you also can either:

  • Mouse users: double-click the folder name
  • Keyboard users: down arrow to the folder then press right arrow

That part I totally get. The problem is that the "Open/Close Folders List" does not display all of my folders. I preferred it the old way. I am willing to use the new way but it isn't working as it should. It displays 10 of my folders. I actually have 55 folders in bookmarks.

Hi tek360, is the problem that the folders do not expand, or the list is cut off, or something else? It would be helpful to understand any pattern to what is not visible.

When I click on the star and the box comes down I see similar to the picture you sent. There are three categories there: Other Bookmarks, Bookmark Toolbar, and Bookmark Menu . When I select Other Bookmarks and then click the down arrow to show the different folders that should appear under "Tags" only ten of my folders show up. Or I can select Other Bookmarks and click on that arrow and choose "Other" but only the ten folders appear. I used to be able to select my folder by clicking "Choose" in the old format where all my folders would appear but this isn't happening with the new version for some reason.

Same thing if I use "Bookmark Toolbar" or" Bookmark Menu" instead . Only ten folders are shown.

So, yes, the list of folders does not expand; I get the same ten no matter which heading I choose. It's like the other folders don't exist unless I open the bookmarks sidebar by clicking "Bookmarks" at the top of the window.

I wish I could take a screenshot of it for you however the box disappears when I click on anything else. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi tek360, I don't use tags except for occasional testing, so I don't know if there has been a change to the Tags box. For the folder list box, you should be able to scroll and see all folders (example attached).

If you want to capture a screenshot, you can use the "Print Screen" (or PrtSc) key on the keyboard to capture the entire screen to the clipboard, then paste into an image editing program like Paint (mspaint.exe). Since the full screen is probably too large to upload, you can cut out the relevant part and save it in its own Paint document.

I did the print screen. I have two images and you can see that there are only 10 files that show up. I don't think a file showing all my bookmarks would fit on here. I don't use tags either. I just used it as a reference as to which arrow I was hitting.

Hi tek360, thank you for the screenshots. (I forgot to mention that mine are from Firefox 62.0, not the ESR release, so it's normal for yours not to have a thumbnail image at the top.)

In your screenshots, the "Tags" list is expanded. Is the problem with the "Tags" list or the folder folder? The folder list should appear in the box above that one.

Let me send you a screen shot of the folder folder. all it has in it is Bookmarks Toolbar Bookmarks Menu Other Bookmarks

No bookmark folders actually appear in the Folder Name folder. Only what you see above.

No matter which one of these options you select and expand the stuff that displays is the same as what you see. I need to add that if you click on Choose all that is there is blank with no folders and you see the tags but only ten of my folders show up in there.

So you can see what you see when you click on the Bookmark Folder. It's even fewer folders than in tags (which I guess I didn't realize was tags but thought it would bring up the list of folders. (Look i upper left corner. I guess I did the copy and paste a bit weird this time.)

This whole thing is very frustrating.

Hi tek360, if you use the "Choose..." item or the button to the right of that list you have open in the last screenshot, then you are supposed to get the ability to view the full folder list. Is that not working on yours?

I don't know what I am doing incorrectly but when I hit Choose this is what I saw:

What am I doing wrong?

Well who knew! I tried searching for this info and couldn't find it. I like the way the new browser performs (faster) however I need a tutorial in how to use some of the functions now as they have changed or moved! Thanks for your patience and help with this. I can't believe I couldn't figure this out by myself as I am usually good with this stuff.
