Hi, that is because XP is no longer supported by Firefox and other browsers. The last version for XP is v52 ESR

You can continue to use it, but without any security updates, it will become less and less secure.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Firefox 53.0 and later including Firefox 61.0 Release and 60.1.0esr should not install as they require Windows 7, 18 (8.1), 10 to run.

So are you saying you installed Firefox 52.9.0 ESR and it reverts to a earlier Firefox version after restart or logging out in in on account?

Perhaps your Windows XP install has something installed that will revert everything to a saved state after a shutdowm restart or logging out and in account again. Some schools and libraries and such places may do this so people can install stuff but it will revert to an earlier state after.

That article is not really the best source as it has two different dates and the June date was from before it was decided to have last major release at 52.9.0esr and not 52.8.0esr as the now current ESR is being based on 60.0 and not 59.0.

Firefox 52.9.0esr out on June 26 is the last Major update for the legacy 52.0 ESR apart from any minor updates for security and or allowed stability fixes. It will be EOL on Sept 5th when 62.0 Release and 60.2.0ESR are Released.

I can install and run 52.9 but if I close the browser and re-open it it reverts back to 52.8.1.

Ok then what OS are you using?

When you posted this thread the More Systems Details on right of you posts shows this for useragent. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0

The NT 5.1 is for Windows XP. However the WOW64 leads me to think you may be running Firefox in Windows XP compatibility mode? on Windows 7, 8.1 or 10.
