Going from Brother control panel on scans for email will no longer bring Thunderbird up

The control panel for my Brother MFC-L8900CDW has a choice to scan email which worked well till yesterday. It is supposed to open Thunderbird with the scanned document as an attachment. It sends it to the email file, but no longer opens Thunderbird. Went through everything with Brother support and verified that all of their settings were correct.
