I can't open any web sites. A message always appears stating that the web site I am trying to go to is not secure/trusted or verified. That includes even gmail.

hi, first please make sure that the date, time & timezone are set correctly on your system. if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a solution depends on the individual circumstances:

  • what is the error code shown when you click on advanced on that error page?
  • please also give us more information about the error by clicking on the error code, copying the text to the clipboard and then pasting it here into a reply in the forum like shown in the screenshot.

thank you!

Here is what appears when I try to go to gmail.com

"Your connection is not secure

The owner of www.gmail.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox may only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate." Then below this message it says: "www.gmail.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER" when I click on the error message it says the following: "https://www.gmail.com/ Peer’s Certificate issuer is not recognized. HTTP Strict Transport Security: true HTTP Public Key Pinning: true Certificate chain: -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- MIIDWzCCAsigAwIBAgIQD2/2V8rdh6tE2K1JM+eVUTAJBgUrDgMCHQUAMIGLMSsw KQYDVQQLEyJDcmVhdGVkIGJ5IGh0dHA6Ly93d3cuZmlkZGxlcjIuY29tMSEwHwYD VQQKHhgARABPAF8ATgBPAFQAXwBUAFIAVQBTAFQxOTA3BgNVBAMeMABEAE8AXwBO AE8AVABfAFQAUgBVAFMAVABfAEYAaQBkAGQAbABlAHIAUgBvAG8AdDAeFw0xNDA5 MDUwNjAwMDBaFw0yNDA5MDUwNTU5NTlaMGgxKzApBgNVBAsTIkNyZWF0ZWQgYnkg aHR0cDovL3d3dy5maWRkbGVyMi5jb20xITAfBgNVBAoeGABEAE8AXwBOAE8AVABf AFQAUgBVAFMAVDEWMBQGA1UEAxMNd3d3LmdtYWlsLmNvbTCBnzANBgkqhkiG9w0B AQEFAAOBjQAwgYkCgYEA3L2a/odL2x6rwAG0qgEcEOntkylSNwkHSB74pHLIBqh4 +5/eOG8qAgGOlpq833AwoHxVpdGuGd6+irbOlr6BzyWCJtS5UZOevdi2hhcOYeID ikc1SyOvSgatWvUiQ+hbaPqjnrkIjNJm2pjXfH/DEeu0j9LqhQ6lpizCAB7b42UC AwEAAaOB6TCB5jAMBgNVHRMBAf8EAjAAMBMGA1UdJQQMMAoGCCsGAQUFBwMBMIHA BgNVHQEEgbgwgbWAEBVFBPAAkcTjW83vwpA/j+OhgY4wgYsxKzApBgNVBAsTIkNy ZWF0ZWQgYnkgaHR0cDovL3d3dy5maWRkbGVyMi5jb20xITAfBgNVBAoeGABEAE8A XwBOAE8AVABfAFQAUgBVAFMAVDE5MDcGA1UEAx4wAEQATwBfAE4ATwBUAF8AVABS AFUAUwBUAF8ARgBpAGQAZABsAGUAcgBSAG8AbwB0ghBOteJL6vBUjUAxIFPkGfc6 MAkGBSsOAwIdBQADgYEAR0cYrJyEyvuxlWGy4im03yn0shYWmmxHeWjhD5aOxTzt gjp0ZbijRahgP3LQq4cezIE+rmoTpNYtXdNuwwe17s8eR744F4UE/hkGnuFJJgDr MtQD3wh1OxtmZm9YDPAEAxr+gGa4sOa/zEBlMr8RjDTQtOH0NL43dYp/jSODEe0= -----END CERTIFICATE----- "Hope you can help ... thanks

thanks, yes unfortunately it appears that something on your system using fiddler2.com issued certificates is intercepting secure network traffic which might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc.

please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally. reference: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/982532#answer-520145

afterwards, run a full scan of your system with different other security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner which are specialised in detecting adware and browser hijackers.
