password-problems

Firefox removed all my stored passwords, and this is going to be a huge problem for me.. They were all in Firefox password manager, or whatever its called, and i tried to lookup logins.json in %appdata%, but it only shows the last password in the list (i had only added a new one when i found out all old ones were gone-made an account at a new site before going through old ones).. The logins.json does not show a rollback history(previous versions)..

I think the fonts etc look different now than it did yesterday, so it could have been an update during the night? Either way, how can i restore it??

v54.0.1 -32bit

I tried that SRE app you mention now, but it only showed up blank here, no entries in the list..

Either way, i think i have fixed it; Ran a Recovery program which search for lost and deleted files, and it poped up 6-7 logins.json files.. I grabbed the largest/newest'ish and the key3-something and replaced the current files.. Seem to work :))

Thank you all for your help!!

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?

No 'Old Firefox' folder on the desktop (or elsewhere on the hdd). Checking the Profiles it just shows the default one, which seems correct as i only use that one (nobody else uses the computer)..

Using Windows 10. Its located on a SSD-drive

How did you look for Previous Versions? Windows 8-10 no longer have that tab in the file's Properties dialog for the C:\ drive, you need to check past restore points in a more indirect way. Could I suggest a third party utility:

(1) Turn on viewing of hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

(2) System Restore Explorer: http://nicbedford.co.uk/software/systemrestoreexplorer/

Look along the same path as your live profile folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

I suggest copying out any potentially useful files to a neutral location and only then try to replace files in your profile folder. See: Recovering important data from an old profile.
