Firefox vers 53.0.3 (64-bit) OS: Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Computer: VAIO Model SVF14N13CXB. 8GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Intel CPU i5-4200U.

Problem: Firefox Firefox vers 53.0.3 (64-bit) will NOT open "Comment Button" on any and all pages from politico.com, but other browsers will.

Efforts taken to resolve the problem: Disable AdBlocker, and update everything.

Notes: Firefox WILL open comments on all other known sites that use Disqus, Facebook, OutBrain, etc. Internet Explorer (IE) will open all politico.com comments, but Firefox will not.

Remedy: It's respectfully believed that the Java used by politico.com is foreign to Firefox vers 53.0.3 (64-bit) architecture causing the failure of opening the "Comment Button" on said site.

Pressing the "show comments" bar near the bottom of the screen does nothing.

But if you press the "comment" link at the top-right, it works.

Politico had removed the top-right link, and has now placed it in the left margin on auto-scroll. Unfortunately, that doesn't work either. Pressing the "Show Comments" button or the left margin link causes the page to scroll all the way to the bottom, and comments will not open.

Thank-you for your input... but I think it's strictly a Politico problem as their site is the only one that has this problem. Perhaps it's for the best that people who have 64-bit machines w/higher versions of Firefox avoid the left-wing snowflake site of Politiscum anyway!!

Thank-you for your response. I tried all of the troubleshoots that you've suggested to no avail. Turning off (un-ticking) Use Hardware Acceleration made the browser run slower, but did not help.

Seriously, did you try the Example of politico page where Firefox will not open the "Comments Button" or any comment link:

We covered that at the beginning of this issue. THERE IS NO-O-O-O "COMMENT LINK" AT THE TOP RIGHT OF THE POLITICO PAGE ON FIREFOX V53+ 64 BIT

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure that your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Having similar problem with Foxnews.com on Firefox 56. Can not login or make active comment fields. Everything works fine on other browsers.
